JOB DESCRIPTION:
Purpose
Lead a small team of skilled technicians to keep equipment running safely, reliably, and efficiently. Own day-to-day mechanical troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, and improvement work that reduces downtime and strengthens equipment performance. * Set daily priorities, assign work, and follow through to ensure issues are resolved.
* Hold yourself and your team accountable for safety, quality, and uptime.
* Build a positive, problem-solving culture with operations and other functions.
Maintenance & Troubleshooting
* Provide hands-on mechanical troubleshooting and fault finding.
* Lead and supervise preventive and predictive maintenance activities.
* Ensure breakdowns are investigated properly, not just fixed and forgotten.
* Work closely with technicians to complete repairs to a high standard.
* Track and manage spare parts usage.
Continuous Improvement
* Identify equipment weaknesses and implement lasting improvements.
* Lead basic root-cause analysis (5 Whys, 3Cs, fishbone, etc.).
* Drive small engineering projects and machine enhancements to reduce recurring failures.
* Promote a "right-first-time" mindset within the team.
Planning & Coordination

* Support plant shutdowns, coordinating internal work and contractors.
* Estimate materials, labour, and time required for improvement or repair tasks.
Technical & Data Responsibilities
* Gather equipment performance data (e.g., downtime, PM compliance).
* Use CMMS (Maximo or equivalent) to log work, track performance, and identify issues.
* Recommend actions based on data-repair, upgrade, or redesign.
* Understand mechanical systems deeply; ability to diagnose cause, not just symptom.
Communication & Collaboration
* Work openly with operations to solve problems quickly and prevent re-occurrence.
* Mentor technicians and share technical knowledge.
* Communicate issues and improvement plans clearly during tier meetings.
Compliance & Standards
* Ensure all work is completed safely and in line with site procedures.
* Comply with quality, safety, and environmental requirements.
* Support audits and maintain clear, accurate documentation.
Required Background
Education & Experience
* Trades qualification or engineering degree (mechanical preferred).
* 2+ years in maintenance or engineering, ideally in a manufacturing environment.
Skills & Competencies
* Strong mechanical background and proven fault-finding ability.
* Experience improving equipment-not just repairing it.
* Ability to prioritize, organize work, and manage multiple issues in a fast-paced environment.
* Solid communication skills and team leadership capability.
* Self-driven, practical, and committed to getting the job done safely and properly.
