Mission:
Within the Advanced Technologies & New Capabilities Unit, part of the Technology & Innovation in Rome, we are looking for a System Engineer to support research, design and prototyping activities for advanced space-ground systems. The role involves working on integrated solutions spanning satellite communications, terrestrial network segments, and navigation technologies (GNSS, Signals of Opportunity), including aspects of signal processing and interference analysis.
The Space Solution Architect will contribute to innovative projects in the fields of hybrid Space-Ground architectures and next-generation navigation services, space communications, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams engaged in disruptive technologies and, when applicable, supporting developments relevant to defense and cyber-resilient positioning services.
Activities:
* Manage the development of digital system architectures across integrated space-ground environments.
* Design, modelling and prototyping Contribute to the conceptual of next-generation communication and navigation solutions.
* Coordinate cross-functional teams in the integration and testing of digital, communication and positioning components.
* Develop or support analysis tools for assessing communication performance, service integrity and positioning functionalities.
* Contribute to interface definition and technical documentation (specifications, ICDs, SSDDs, validation reports).
* Participate in technical and design reviews within R&D programs (e.g. ESA, EUSPA, NAVISP, EDA).
* Support the preparation of technical proposals and Statements of Work.
* Identify risks, propose mitigation strategies and ensure smooth deployment of system components.
* Monitor emerging technologies in communications, navigation, cloud/edge and signal processing for potential adoption.
Requirements
* Degree in Telecommunications, Computer or Electronic Engineering or related degrees.
* Background of signal processing and signal analysis, with experience in radio-assisted navigation (GPS, Galileo).
* Solid knowledge in systems engineering, MBSE methodologies and familiarity with ECSS standards.
* Experience with cloud platforms, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), distributed systems and cybersecurity best practices.
* Preferred Technical Skills: Experience in system/solution architecture, with strong knowledge of modern architectural patterns (layered, microservices, event-driven) and knowledge of programming language as Java, Python and simulation tools (MATLAB, C++, STK).
* Excellent analytical and communication skills, strong teamwork attitude, proficiency in technical English.
* Proficiency in English.
