Job Description:
About Us
Rimac Energy is a technology company at the forefront of advanced battery energy storage, power conversion, and control systems for demanding, fast-moving energy applications. We design and build hardware that solves hard problems - from grid-connected inverters and energy storage systems through to high-voltage power distribution and accessory control products used in real-world deployments.
Our teams span mechanical design, electrical engineering, software, controls, compliance, testing, supply chain, and manufacturing. We are fast-moving, technically ambitious, and results-driven. If you join us, you will work on genuinely complex problems alongside engineers who care deeply about what they build.
We expect a lot. We also offer a lot: real ownership, real products, and the chance to contribute to technology that pushes the boundaries of what energy systems can do.
Key Responsibilities
Mechanical Hardware Design
* Own component design for all assigned parts and commodities, including electrical routing, thermal routing, structural enclosures, assembly features, and packaging constraints
* Ensure mechanical requirements are met, reviewed, documented, and signed off before design release
* Create, maintain, and release accurate 3D models, 2D drawings, design data, and production documentation
* Support mechanical component selection by assessing package, material, process, cost, supplier capability, validation, and serviceability constraints
* Define materials, finishes, coatings, plating, fasteners, torque requirements, and interface details for conductive and structural components - including electrical contacts, busbars, brackets, enclosures, and grounding hardware
* Support virtual builds and build-process documentation to confirm assembly sequence, access, tooling clearance, routing, serviceability, and repeatability
Electrical Packaging & Integration
* Translate electrical diagrams, schematics, wiring information, control and communication interfaces, EPB and safety needs, and hardware requirements into practical mechanical packaging solutions
* Package PCBs, contactors, fuses, filters, sensors, connectors, cable glands, busbars, cooling systems, brackets, and associated enclosures
* Support EMC-aware packaging - including cable routing, filter placement, grounding, bonding, shielding, segregation, conductive interfaces, and enclosure-level design features
* Contribute to design decisions that balance efficiency, grid compliance, EMC performance, safety, cost, thermal performance, manufacturability, and launch timing
CAE, Verification, Testing & Launch
* Act as an integral interface with the CAE team, interpreting simulation results and converting them into design actions that meet mechanical, thermal, structural, vibration, and durability requirements
* Support testing, prototype build, verification, integration, and launch activities with build notes, design data, fixtures, packaging updates, and rapid issue resolution
* Capture build feedback, test observations, fit issues, tolerance concerns, supplier questions, and design risks
* Use structured problem-solving to identify issues, containment actions, root causes, countermeasures, and robust design improvements
Supplier, Customer & Cross-Functional Working
* Support supplier and customer interaction covering DFM, tooling, verification, integration, issue resolution, cost, delivery timing, and design maturity
* Conduct cross-functional reviews for high-priority tasks and where risk, timing, or integration impact warrants wider review
* Solve complex problems by drawing on expertise across the team, supply chain, and wider industry where needed
Cost, Supply Chain & Delivery Ownership
* Support cost analysis, design-to-cost trade-offs, supplier feasibility reviews, and cost-reduction activities without compromising requirements or launch quality
* Coordinate with supply chain to ensure parts are ordered, tracked, and delivered to MRD timings
* Communicate part and commodity status clearly - including release status, supplier manufacture, expected delivery, and PO status
* Operate a robust task and time-management process, escalating risks early with clear mitigation plans and revised target dates
Documentation & Process
* Develop and maintain Jira tickets, Confluence documentation, design review materials, decisions, open issues, and sign-off evidence
* Maintain part naming, attributes, drawing references, release information, and EBoM structure to company standards
* Ensure all due dates are met, or that robust mitigation is communicated with new target dates before deadlines are missed
Required Skills & Experience
Techincal Background
* Degree, apprenticeship, HNC/HND, or equivalent practical experience in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, Mechatronics, or a related field
* Strong experience creating mechanical designs for electrical, electronic, power-electronic, or energy-system hardware
* Confident using 3DEXPERIENCE CAD and 2D drawing tools, with strong knowledge of GD&T, tolerancing, materials, finishes, and production documentation
* Ability to read and interpret electrical diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, interface documents, system requirements, and packaging constraints
* Working understanding of electrical packaging - routing, shielding, grounding, creepage, clearance, heat dissipation, isolation, and service access
Practical Experience
* Experience supporting prototype builds, virtual builds, product integration, design validation, or low-volume manufacturing
* Exposure to enclosures, harness routing, busbars, connectors, PCBs, filters, terminals, cooling systems, sensors, brackets, and mounting systems
* Ability to balance electrical performance, mechanical robustness, compliance, cost, MRD timing, and build practicality in a fast-moving environment
* Excellent communication skills, with the confidence to challenge assumptions and resolve interface issues across mechanical, electrical, CAE, supplier, and manufacturing teams
* Structured approach to problem solving, Jira management, drawing release, design reviews, documentation, requirements traceability, and EBoM discipline
Considered an Advantage
* Experience with battery energy storage systems, inverters, power conversion systems, grid-connected equipment, or high-voltage/high-power assemblies
* Experience designing or packaging inverters, power distribution units, control enclosures, harnesses, or thermal management commodities
* Familiarity with EMC design principles - EMC filtering, shield termination, bonding, earthing, and standards such as IEC 61000 or equivalent
* Awareness of product compliance and electrical safety standards for grid-connected or power-electronics products: IEC 62477, UL 1741, EN 50549, G99, or equivalent
* Experience with requirements, PLM, issue-tracking, and documentation tools such as Jira, Confluence, 3DEXPERIENCE, or similar
* Hands-on understanding of component testing, supplier development, tooling, cost analysis, manufacturing methods, and design-for-assembly improvements
What We Offer
* Technically challenging, high-impact work on advanced energy storage and power conversion products - from concept through prototype, validation, and production
* Real ownership of your parts and commodities, with visibility across the full product lifecycle
* A collaborative, cross-functional engineering culture with strong links between mechanical, electrical, controls, software, compliance, CAE, test, supply chain, and manufacturing
* Fast-paced environment where practical problem-solving and initiative are genuinely valued
* Continuous learning and development, with exposure to rapidly evolving energy and power electronics technology
* A friendly, ambitious team that works hard and takes pride in what it builds
