Job Summary

Provides commerical management services from contract signature and award to completion of projects in various different. This opportunity is for a secured role that is due to commence in November subject to approval.

The project: This role supports the Ministry of Justice's initiative to deliver four new prisons as part of a broader programme creating 13,000 modern prison places across England. Delivered through an Alliance model involving Mace, designers, and major UK contractors, the project promotes collaborative working to achieve delivery, drive efficiency, cost savings, and provide enhanced value for the MoJ.

We are looking for an experienced Commercial Manager ready to step up to Senior Commercial Manager. The candidate will have a construction background, excellent NEC knowledge, be confident in dealing with contractual matters and work collaboratively supporting the Project management team.
As Commercial Manager, you will integrate with the wider programme delivery team, providing expert contract administration and commercial support. You will assist Project Managers in managing NEC4 contracts, oversee CEMAR compliance, and offer strategic advice to ensure contractual obligations are met.

Key Job Responsibilities

* Developing and maintaining strong working relationships with contractors and client teams.
* Monitoring contractor performance and ensuring compliance with contractual requirements.
* Supporting interim payment certification processes in collaboration with client cost consultants.
* Administering contract changes and managing CEMAR workflows to meet contractual deadlines.
* Contributing to benchmarking and monthly performance reporting.
* Participating in commercial meetings, reviewing early warnings and compensation events.
* Preparing recommendations for compensation events and client changing board submissions.
* Conducting site visits to assess completed works and attend contractor progress meetings.
* Engaging in client meetings to review proposed changes and entitlements.
* Providing commercial support and cost-effective solutions to internal teams and clients.
You'll need to have:
Demonstrated success in commercial management within the construction sector.
* Interpersonal skills in creating, managing and maintaining relationships, able to converse to clients and peers to director level.
* Strong contractual knowledge (NEC), confident communicator, and collaborative team player.
* Accountable, results-driven, and committed to service excellence.Previous experience of working on large schemes, delivering multiple packages of work from design through to completion. Ability to demonstrate that you understand the importance of service excellence and stakeholder engagement, be able to work collaboratively with the full project team.

* A degree in relevant construction related qualification.

CEMAR experience

A degree in quantity surveying/cost management (or equivalent).
Proficient knowledge and expertise in specific sector/market of project/role.
Relevant technical qualification/certification for project portfolio/s.
Experience in most forms of contract.
Sound knowledge and ability to undertake and advise on Contract Administration and Contract Management.

Professional membership or working towards i.e. MRICS/RICS or equivalent.
Detailed knowledge of JCT and NEC forms of contract.
Capex V Opex Cost analysis/ advice.
Knowledge of value engineering, life cycle costing, contract law and contractual frameworks relating to construction.

Career progression horizontally may involve other Commercial Consultancy Advisor P4 or Commercial Consultancy Manager M2 roles, across a function or cross functionally, to build a broader professional skill set.
Career progression vertically may involve moving to a Senior Commercial Consultancy Advisor role at P5/Senior Commercial Consultancy Manager role at M3.
