Job Description:
Amazon's Reliability, Maintenance & Engineering (RME) team ensures that our global fulfillment and operations networks run safely, efficiently, and at peak performance. An Operational Excellence Program Manager will drive strategic initiatives that optimize operational capacity, enhance network performance, and deliver measurable improvements. This role combines hands-on execution with strategic planning to eliminate operational barriers, implement standard work practices, and foster partnerships with RME and Operations teams.
Key job responsibilities
Partner with RME and Operations support teams to lead root cause analysis, eliminate operational barriers, and implement continuous improvement initiatives across the network
Lead initiatives to optimize capacity utilization; own and improve capacity models including architecture, methodology, and output validation
Collaborate with RME and Operations teams to develop solutions and lead large-scale initiatives impacting operational capacity
Utilize advanced analytics and operational research for data-driven decision making; monitor initiative performance and implement corrective actions
Create and maintain program artifacts including business requirement documents, initiative plans, and whitepapers
Develop and implement standard work practices that improve key business metrics, performance results, and translate lessons into standards across the network
Remove operational barriers through hands-on problem-solving to deliver immediate results
Mentor team members and foster a culture of innovation
Lead, mentor, and develop a team of 3-6 Program Managers fostering a culture of operational excellence and continuous improvement
Candidate Requirements:
- Experience implementing repeatable processes and driving automation or standardization
- 5+ years of program or project management experience
- Experience owning program strategy, end to end delivery, and communicating results to senior leadership
- Experience using data and metrics to determine and drive improvements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (any domain), Operations, Business Administration, or a related field
- Experience delivering results for large, cross-functional initiatives/projects
- Experience as an operations analyst, data analyst or in a similar role
- Experience leveraging technology and implementing lean principles / Six Sigma methodologies to drive process improvements or equivalent
- Experience working cross-functionally and driving decision making among stakeholders with competing goals
- Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution
- MBA degree or above in related fields
- 5+ years of driving process improvements experience
- Experience in operations management for a fulfillment or distribution center
- Project Management Professional (PMP) or equivalent certification
- Experience with capacity planning and optimization models
- Advanced proficiency in data analysis tools and business intelligence platforms
