About the role
The Credit and Trade Loan Senior Team Leader is accountable for leading a country- and business-focused Credit & Trade Loan team within FBT Finance.
The role ensures strong credit risk management, compliant trade loan governance, effective business partnering, and team capability development, aligned with bp Delegation of Authority, Downstream Credit Policy, and Trade Loan Policy.
The position combines people leadership, technical excellence, operational oversight, and participant engagement, supporting both business performance and financial risk rigor.
In this role You will
Credit Risk & Trade Loan Management
* Lead and oversee all customer credit assessment and trade loan activities for the supported country/business
* Ensure all active customers have:
* A valid credit assessment and review
* An assigned bp risk rating
* An approved credit limit correctly reflected in systems
* Ensure customers operate within approved credit limits and that exceptions are managed in line with policy
* Ensure periodic credit reviews are completed in line with Downstream Credit Process requirements
* Oversee preparation, validation, and submission of trade loan proposals in compliance with:
* bp Delegation of Authority
* Trade Loan Policy
* Financial evaluation standards (e.g. credit risk, return metrics)
Operational Excellence
* Accountable for accurate, timely, and insightful management reporting for credit and trade loan activities
* Supervise key performance indicators and trends; initiate corrective actions where required
* Ensure monthly and quarterly reporting is delivered accurately and within deadlines
* Manage blocked orders and exposure issues proactively, balancing risk and commercial needs
* Support BAU operations through hands-on guidance and issue resolution when required
Customer & Business Partnering
* Build strong working relationships with Commercial, Sales, Supply, Finance, and Risk partners
* Act as a trusted credit risk partner to the business, supporting informed commercial decisions
* Ensure clear ownership and accountability between FBT and the business
* Raise material credit and trade loan risks appropriately to senior partners
Systems, Change & Transition Support
* Maintain solid understanding of relevant ERP and credit systems; support enhancements and standardisation
* Play an active role in transitions, ensuring stable knowledge transfer and service continuity
* Support credit and trade loan-related projects, system upgrades, and critical initiatives
Governance, Risk & Compliance
* Ensure compliance with bp policies, legal and regulatory requirements
* Maintain strong audit readiness, including appropriate analytical backup for trade loan-related accounts
* Support internal and external audit activities as required
* Contribute to strategic target setting and continuous improvement initiatives
People Leadership
* Lead, coach, and develop the team both technically and behaviorally
* Build and maintain balanced workloads and effective backup structures
* Foster a positive, inclusive team culture aligned with bp values and behaviours
* Conduct regular team meetings, performance discussions, and development planning
* Actively support talent development and succession planning
What You will need to be successful
* University degree or equivalent experience in Economics, Finance, Business, or a related field
* Significant experience in credit management, customer credit risk, or trade finance
* Proven people leadership experience in a finance or operational services environment
* Solid understanding of credit risk principles, financial analysis, and working capital management
* Experience operating in a large, sophisticated, international organisation
* Strong understanding of end-to-end finance processes (e.g. Order to Cash, Record to Report)
* Sophisticated Excel skills and solid systems proficiency (ERP / credit systems)
* Fluent business English (written and spoken)
* Experience in Downstream, Lubes, or B2B customer environments
* Exposure to trade finance or long-term commercial investment structures
* Project or transition experience within shared or global service organisations
