Duties and Responsibilities
UNODC's mission is to contribute to global peace and security, human rights and development by making the world safer from drugs, crime, corruption and terrorism. https://www.unodc.org/unodc/index.html GPS is part of the Research and Analysis Branch (RAB), Division of Policy Analysis and Public Affairs (DPA). GPS serves as a host for various projects that utilize geospatial data and tools for researching topics related to drugs and crime. GPS supports geospatial operations within field offices, such as conducting surveys on illicit crops and illegal mineral mines, including the management of remote sensing data. Additionally, GPS contributes to cartographic support for RAB and the Global Research Network by generating and validating maps tailored for diverse publications like the World Drug Report, Crimes that Affect the Environment, Global Study on Homicide, and more. The intern will be placed in the Geospatial Analysis and Programme Delivery Section (GPS) and will report to the Geospatial Information officers in the section. Tasks will include: * Assist in the collection, management, analysis and quality control of geospatial data related to drug and crime research. * Assist in the presentation of geographic information through static and dynamic (web-based) maps and story maps, applying innovative techniques and design approaches. * Contribute to the integration of geospatial information into ongoing research activities of the Branch. * Assist in developing guidelines and protocols for map production and geospatial processing workflows. * Contribute to liaison with universities, research centres, and UN networks to support cooperation on geospatial related research. * Keep abreast of emerging technologies and innovations in GIS and cartography. The internship is UNPAID and interns work five days per week (full time - 40 hours).

Qualifications/special skills
*Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have recently completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have recently completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent). *Be computer literate in standard software applications; *Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and * Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. 1. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. 2. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master's or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have recently completed a Bachelor's, Master's or PH.D. Programme. Do you meet any of the above criteria? If yes, please indicate which one and attach proof to the application. Please note that you will have to provide an official certificate at a later stage. 3. Applicants must have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Excel and MS Teams. 4. Applicants must have good knowledge of the principles of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and geospatial data management, as well as statistical and analytical skills. 5. Applicants must have practical experience with GIS and web mapping applications (e.g. ArcGIS PRO, QGIS, ArcGIS Online, Leaflet). 6. Experience with layout and design tools (e.g., Adobe Illustrator, InDesign) and strong skills in visual storytelling and creative information design are an advantage. 1. Candidates for the UN Internship Programme are required to cover the cost of travel including visa, accommodation, health insurance and other living expenses for the duration of the internship. Languages
