Join us. **Job Description** **AECOM** is seeking a **Process Mechanical Intern** to join our Process Engineering team in **Burnaby, British Columbia** . This **new intern position** is expected to start in **September 2026** . The internship is designed to provide hands-on, practical engineering experience that complements academic learning and supports the transition from student to professional engineer. This role is well suited for **third-year chemical, environmental, civil or mechanical engineering students** who are ready to take on technically engaging assignments, build hands-on skills, and gain exposure to real-world engineering consulting projects delivered in a multidisciplinary environment. **Responsibilities** Under the guidance and mentorship of experienced engineers, the intern will be responsible for tasks including, but not limited to: + Support mechanical and process engineering activities across a range of infrastructure and industrial consulting projects. + Prepare and develop engineering deliverables such as P&IDs, reports, calculations, sketches, diagrams, and drawings in accordance with established standards and procedures. + Assist with the development of process layouts, equipment specifications, and mechanical system designs. + Apply mechanical engineering fundamentals to evaluate design alternatives and support technical decision-making. + Coordinate with engineers from other disciplines (civil, electrical, structural, instrumentation, etc.) to support integrated project delivery. + Participate in internal coordination meetings and design reviews. + Assist with field investigations, site visits, and data collection activities to better understand existing facilities and operating conditions. + Follow quality control processes and contribute to meeting project schedules and deliverable requirements. + Progressively complete assigned work with increasing independence after initial guidance and review. This position provides a **broad, well-rounded learning experience** with increasing responsibility as skills and confidence develop. **What You'll Gain** + Hands-on experience applying mechanical and process engineering principles to real consulting projects. + Exposure to the full project lifecycle, from early technical development through detailed design and delivery. + Experience working within multidisciplinary engineering teams in a professional consulting environment. + Insight into how engineering designs interface with clients, contractors, and field conditions. + Mentorship from experienced engineers committed to your technical and professional development. **Qualifications** **Minimum Requirements** + Currently enrolled in an accredited university pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Chemical, Civil, Environmental or Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline, with the intent to return to school following the internship unless graduating. + Completion of at least three (3) years of undergraduate study at the time of application. **Preferred Qualifications** + Strong foundation in mechanical engineering fundamentals, including fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and heat transfer. + Familiarity with engineering and design tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, or similar software. + Interest or exposure to model-based or 3D design coordination workflows. + Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and Word. + Strong time-management skills and the ability to prioritize tasks across multiple assignments. + Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality engineering work. + Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. + Interest in pursuing a long-term career in engineering consulting and professional engineering licensure (P.Eng.). **Additional Information** + Relocation is not available for this position. + Sponsorship for Canadian employment authorization is not available for this position. Offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location.
