Position Summary
If you are a technology or engineering student looking for an internship opportunity to work with the global Emerson Systems and Software organization, this is a stimulating opportunity for you! As the Intelligent Systems and Automation Intern, you will help develop an intelligent and automated system for processing operational alerts and related workflows. You will collaborate with engineers, technical mentors, and cross-functional partners to design components, test logic, and document end-to-end processes.
In This Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be
* Learning the current alarm management process, workflows, device categories, and reporting procedures
* Analyzing incoming alerts and determining follow-up actions based on rules, updated instructions, or real-time values.
* Designing components of an intelligent system that automates alert intake, processing, decision logic, and report generation.
* Exploring security considerations across the AI lifecycle and documenting risks and mitigations
* Creating reports, customizable summaries, and alarm optimization lists based on platform outputs
* Documenting development decisions, rule updates, evaluations, and improvement recommendations
* Integrating simple security and privacy safeguards usable within the proof of concept
* Partnering with engineers to iterate on system logic, data handling, and UX improvements

For This Role, You Will Need
* Currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in [course/degree related to the role], or an equivalent field.
* Ability to commit to a minimum of 480 hours; both required and voluntary interns are welcome.
* Foundational experience or coursework in Python, machine learning, or natural language processing
* Interest in automation, responsible AI, and process optimization
* Ability to document decisions, follow structured workflows, and collaborate with engineers
* Basic familiarity with data analysis techniques or workflow automation tools
Preferred Qualifications That Set You Apart
* Exposure to Python libraries such as pandas, scikit-learn, or spaCy
* Experience with data storage formats like CSV or Parquet
* Interest in UX considerations for agent or operator productivity
* Familiarity with Power Automate or similar workflow tools
