Introduction

Introduction

Do you want to get hands-on experience with (COMPANY NAME)'s simulation tooling and contribute to the development of an end-to-end wafer simulation framework? Are you a bachelor's or master's student in Physics, Mathematics, or Computer Science? Are you proficient in MATLAB? Do you have experience with numerical simulation and algorithm development? Then this internship is interesting for you!

Background Information

(COMPANY NAME)'s core business in the production of scanner machines, which are used in the lithography step for creating chips. These machines print a pattern on a silicone disk, known as a wafer, at a very small scale. In producing these patterns, the information about the positioning of the wafer is used in the system and in the surface of the wafer itself, to adjust the printing process.

The Leveling department is responsible for sequencing and processing these measurements, as well as developing physical models based on these measurements that are used to run the system in an optimal way.

Your Assignment

The Leveling department has a MATLAB-based simulation framework that enables the simulation of realistic wafers. The simulation framework uses an internal grid to represent the wafer topography and calculate the level sensor measurements. However, due to memory and/or calculation time limitations, the spacing of the grid points might be bigger than the smallest feature on the wafer, leading to aliasing artefacts.

Your assignment is to create a better approach for the internal grid, which does not lead to aliasing artefacts and still fits within memory and calculation time requirements. The assignment also includes translating the solution approach into a design and implementing it in the simulation framework, as well as quantifying the performance based on relevant use cases.

Your Profile

To be the perfect match for this internship, you

* Are a bachelor's or master's in the direction of Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science.
* Are proficient in MATLAB.
* Have experience with algorithm development and signal processing.
* Have experience with numerical simulation and data analysis.
* Have excellent communication skills, and are proficient in English, both written and verbally.
* Are a team player but also have the ability to work independently and proactively.

Other Requirements You Need To Meet

* You are available for at least 4-5 days/ week, and for a minimum duration of 6 months;
* You are enrolled at a school for the entire duration of the internship;
* You need to be located in the Netherlands to be perform your internship. In case you 're currently living/studying outside of the Netherlands, please include in your CV/motivation letter willingness to relocate.

(COMPANY NAME) be part of progress

(COMPANY NAME) is a high-tech company headquartered in the Netherlands. We manufacture the complex lithography machines that chipmakers use to produce integrated circuits, or computer chips. What we do is at the heart of all the electronic devices that keep us informed, entertained and connected. Every day, you use electronics that simply wouldn't exist without our machines.

Behind (COMPANY NAME)'s innovations are engineers who think ahead. The people who work at our company include some of the most creative minds in physics, electrical engineering, mathematics, chemistry, mechatronics, optics, mechanical engineering, and computer science and software engineering.

We believe we can always do better. We believe the winning idea can come from anyone. We love what we do - not because it's easy, but because it's hard.

Students getting ready for real-world R&D

We're a global team of about 29,000 people of 120 different nationalities and counting. Headquartered in Europe's top tech hub, the Brainport Eindhoven region in the Netherlands, our operations are spread across Europe, Asia and the US.

In such an environment, your colleagues may be sitting next door, or they could be thousands of kilometers away in a different country - or even working for a different company.

An internship at (COMPANY NAME) is the opportunity to get to know not only the world of industrial-strength R&D, but yourself - you'll discover just what excites you most. Will you design a part of the machine, or make sure it gets built to the tightest possible specifications? Will you write software that drives the system to its best performance, or work side-by-side with the engineers of our customers in a fab, optimizing a system to the requirements of the customer?

How will you be part of progress?
