Job Summary and Qualifications

The Chemistry Lab Lead collects and prepares specimens and performs laboratory procedures used in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease. Verifies, records and reports lab results in an accurate and timely manner on all performed tests. Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, hospital policies and laboratory procedures, including maintaining the cleanliness of all equipment, instruments and work area. In addition to MLT/MT responsibilities will serve as a lead technologist for the Chemistry Lead. Will also have primary responsibility for instrument operation, maintenance, quality control and compliance with all regulatory standards pertaining to Chemistry
Performance Expectations

* Provide appropriate customer service to all patients, visitors, physicians and co-workers utilizing AIDET while showing courtesy, compassion and respect.
* Utilize good problem solving abilities, making sure that problems are resolved, calling on other knowledgeable parties as necessary
* Choose appropriate channels and time to discuss complaints or concerns.
* Coordinate and participate in the performance and interpretation of complex technical duties in support of medical laboratory testing; record determinations and results for review by laboratory management and physician/caregiver staff.
* Check and maintain all forms of Laboratory communication (e-mail, shift change logs or any other assigned form of communication).
* Stays informed of hospital and department issues by attending meetings and reading correspondence.
* Keeps supervisor appropriately informed of daily activities and developments.
* Maintains confidentiality by following hospital rules and reminding others when necessary. (HIPAA)
* Participate in specimen collection when required according to test requested, either directly by venipuncture or skin puncture; maintain responsibility for patient identification, specimen labeling and collection verification, or instructing patients or other healthcare providers in collection and preservation techniques for urine, sputum, stool, scrapings, or other specimens for analysis.
* Set up, evaluate and operate current and new equipment, instruments and apparatus required for specific laboratory tests and assume adequate responsibility to maintain operations preventive maintenance within Chemistry.
* Completes mandatory education.
* Provide accountability for recruitment and retention activities as evidenced by feedback on employee satisfaction surveys.
* Evaluate Chemistry collected laboratory data and prepare reports assessing accuracy, completeness, timeliness, progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions via LIS and middleware.
* Participate in the development of new medical laboratory procedures and techniques in Chemistry.
* Provide technical guidance and instruction to students, interns, residents, nursing staff and other employees
* Mentors new employees.
* Monitor Quality Control, Quality Assurance, Safety and Inspection Control practices in Chemistryto assure compliance with internal and external regulations.
* Maintain environment of care standards by knowing and following procedures in life safety, fire safety, infection control, universal precautions, and security.
* Stays informed regarding hospital and department issues by attending meetings, reading correspondence.
* Actively participates in continuous quality improvement activities by making suggestions for improvement and helping to make positive changes to include quality control, quality assurance, safety and inspection control practices.
* Actively participates in the team spirit of the department, helping to accomplish Laboratory Services mission, and lending a helping hand to other members of the team as appropriate.
* Consistently on time and has good attendance.
* Performs assignments as directed by lab manager or director accurately in a timely manner.

You Will Need

* Education: Associate Degree required [Bachelor preferred]; NCCLS accredited or equivalent program
* License/Certification: ASCP, AAB, AMT or equivalent
* Experience: At least one year of experience working in a complex hospital

Parkridge Medical Center is a 270+ bed hospital. We are near downtown Chattanooga. We feature comprehensive diagnostic, medical, and surgical services. These services include cardiovascular surgery and cancer treatment. These services include intensive care, orthopedic and spine surgery, and rehabilitation. The facility includes a state of the art neurosurgery program. Patients also have access to OB-GYN services. Patients have access to a level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. They also have access to (NICU) and behavioral health treatment centers for children and adults.
