Vestas Development is a business unit within Vestas Wind Systems that is responsible for developing wind farms globally. This position will be focused in the European region under the Vestas Development Operations team that provides support services to all of the European development teams.
Responsibilities:
* Site Analysis and Feasibility: Conduct site accessibility and constructability checks, including orography, site complexity, access roads, and slopes, both through desktop studies and on-site inspections during the origination and pre-feasibility phases. Coordinate with external subcontractors, consultants, the project manager, and environmental specialists to assess project viability.
* Transport and Logistics: Interface with transport contractors to execute road surveys and assess logistics from the WTG delivery point (e.g., harbour) to the wind farm site. Evaluate road adjustments, intervention works, and constraints such as road bearing capacity, bridges, tunnels, and national transport regulations. Support the estimation of intervention requirements based on constraints and propose appropriate transportation methodologies.
* Design and Compliance: Review wind farm designs to ensure compliance with minimum requirements for crane pads, access roads, bending radius, foundations, crossings, earthworks, temporary construction sites, and reinstatement works. Verify the fulfilment of local restrictions and technical specifications.
* Cost Estimation and Validation: Verify bill of quantities and cost evaluations prepared by external subcontractors, covering excavation works, transport interventions, material supply, site preparation, and foundation construction. Ensure cost-related information is accurate and included in Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) packages submitted to relevant authorities.
* Permitting and Stakeholder Engagement: Prepare technical and administrative documentation required to obtain permits from authorities. Participate in public consultations organized as part of the wind farm permitting procedure.
* Site Inspections: Conduct inspections and verifications of sites, logistic areas, internal and external roads, landfall areas, storage areas, and harbours for feasibility assessments related to WTG transport and assembly.
* Other Technical Tasks: Follow up with contractors on technical document preparation for Met Mast installation.
Qualifications:
Master's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
Experience: 2-3 years of relevant experience in civil engineering, with a focus on infrastructure projects. Experience in renewable energy, particularly wind farms, is highly desirable.
Competencies:
Demonstrated experience managing and delivering pre-construction activities, including site assessment, design coordination, and permitting processes.
Technical Skills: Solid understanding of civil engineering principles, including earthworks, foundations, road design, drainage systems, and geotechnical considerations. Proficiency in design and analysis tools, particularly AutoCAD and Civil 3D, is required, along with experience in swept path analysis and access route planning tools such as AutoTURN and Sierra Roads (or equivalent). Familiarity with GIS tools. Knowledge of relevant standards, regulations, and permitting processes in the wind energy sector.
Project Management: Experience in preparing budgets, schedules, and technical reports for pre-construction phases. Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including developers, environmental specialists, and construction teams.
Communication and Problem-Solving: Clear written and verbal communication skills in English and Spanish. Ability to present technical information clearly to stakeholders and team members. Demonstrates initiative in identifying and resolving technical challenges during the pre-construction phase.Other Requirements: Willingness to travel to project sites as needed. Well-developed organizational skills and attention to detail. Commitment to safety and environmental compliance.
