What the role is

URA's Physical Planning Group (PPG) is responsible for the short/medium term strategic use of land in Singapore. We focus on balancing economic growth with a quality living environment. Our prudent land use planning and good urban design has made Singapore one of the most liveable cities in Asia.

We prepare short/medium term land use plans to guide the physical development of Singapore by translating the broad strategies of the Long Term Plan.

The Master Plan is the statutory land use plan which guides Singapore's development over the next 5 to 15 years. We review the Master Plan every five years. The Master Plan shows the permissible land use and density for developments in Singapore. Like the Concept Plan, the Master Plan is a collaborative effort between agencies to ensure that our development meets immediate economic and social needs while maintaining a good quality living environment.

For our planning, we divide Singapore into 5 Regions and 55 Planning Areas. We work with other relevant agencies to ensure that each Planning Area is well served by transport, amenities, community facilities, parks and recreational areas for the residents. We also manage the planning and development of future growth areas outside the City Centre i.e. Jurong Lake District, Paya Lebar Central and Kallang Riverside. In addition, we handle land use consultations from government agencies and undertake planning studies to improve the provision of services and optimise the use of land.

This internship will be under PPG.

What you will be working on

You will be working on the following:
- Research on overseas case studies relevant to the planning of the future Paya Lebar Airbase (PLAB) town
- Research on new town typologies and development of planning/ urban design principles for application in PLAB
- Other planning-related tasks for ongoing studies in the East region, including, for e.g., the revitalisation of Tampines Regional Centre

Learning Outcomes
You are expected to gain the following learning outcomes:
- Develop an understanding of URA's land-use planning principles
- Gain exposure to master planning and development of new growth areas

What we are looking for

Internship period: Full-time internship from Oct - Dec 2026 (3-months internship preferred). To facilitate the hiring process, please state your availability, including specific start and end date in your resume or application form.

Students pursuing Architecture, Landscape Architecture and related courses.

We are looking for candidates who are familiar with geospatial / design software (e.g. ArcGIS, AutoCAD, Rhino, Illustrator, full Adobe Suite).
