6-month internship
We are seeking a high-potential, analytically driven engineering-minded Procurement Analyst Intern to join our team. This internship offers deep exposure to real-life commodity trading operations, hands-on experience in procurement, data-driven decision-making, and supplier management within a high-pressure and fast trading environment.
The successful candidate will support strategic sourcing initiatives and take ownership of structuring, analysing and improving complex operational problems, directly contributing to cost efficiency, risk control, and supplier performance.
As a Procurement Analyst Intern within T&S Trading Operations, you will join a 30-member Operations Technical Services (OTS) team supporting trading activities and actively preserving PnL in day-to-day operations. Your responsibilities will focus on procurement activities for service providers such as inspection companies, superintendents, and additive suppliers.
You will help generate concrete, measurable business impact by optimising procurement processes, managing tenders and Request for Proposals (RFP), improving cost transparency and contract coverage, and designing, prototyping and (where relevant) deploying data-driven or automated solutions, while fostering strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
What makes this internship distinctive
This internship is designed for engineers who want to see the real-world impact of their analytical and technical skills in a trading environment.
High-performing interns are given increasing ownership, exposure and responsibility throughout the internship, based strictly on results and impact.
Activités
* Collect, analyse, structure and interpret procurement datasets to support fast, fact-based operational decisions.
* Identify service providers without framework agreements or with insufficient contractual, KYC or compliance coverage.
* Support the preparation and execution of RFPs and tenders, including problem structuring with stakeholders, timeline management and data consolidation.
* Analyse supplier proposals (pricing logic, compliance, service levels, performance indicators) to challenge market practices and optimise value creation.
* Monitor supplier performance and adherence to contractual commitments. * Maintain procurement documentation and ensure data consistency, reliability and traceability across tools.
* Conduct cost analysis, benchmarking and quantitative market intelligence exercises.
* Oversee service provider onboarding to ensure alignment with HSE, contracts, pricing structures and internal standards.
* Work closely with Finance, Operations, Trading Desks, IT and Legal teams in a front-office-adjacent environment.
* Participate in analytical and data-backed price negotiations with service providers. * Represent TotalEnergies professionally and uphold the company's image in all interactions.
* Proactively propose ideas to automate, simplify or redesign workflows and improve procurement tools. Ownership, intellectual curiosity and a builder mindset are essential in this role.
Objectives
* Gain hands-on experience in high-impact service procurement within a global trading organisation.
* Improve contractual coverage, cost transparency and quantified cost & risk control.
* Enhance the usability, automation level and technical robustness of internal procurement tools.
* Contribute to the development of clear, structured and scalable procurement frameworks.
* Streamline service provider onboarding while maintaining TotalEnergies' operational and HSE standards.
* Build a strong hybrid analytical/business skillset relevant for trading and trading operations environments.
Profil du candidat
* Final year of a Master's degree in Engineering or quantitative disciplines (Industrial, Mechanical, Civil, Energy, Data, IT, Applied Maths, Operations Research). Candidates from top engineering schools (EPFL, Centrale, Mines, etc.) are particularly encouraged to apply.
* Strong analytical and problem-structuring mindset; you naturally think in systems, models and data.
* Demonstrated interest in commodities markets, trading or trading operations. * Prior experience in data analysis, coding, optimisation, operations, logistics or quantitative modelling.
* Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
* Advanced proficiency in Excel and data visualisation tools (Power BI).
* Proficiency in Python with the ability to prototype, automate and, when relevant, deploy solutions into real operational tools. Exposure to AI / LLM tools applied to business problems is a strong plus.
* Fluent in English and French.
* Fast learner, hands-on, results-oriented, comfortable operating under time pressure.
* Strong communication skills and ability to interact with senior and operational stakeholders.
* Internship must be covered by a tripartite agreement.
The internship takes place within the fast-moving environment of international commodity trading, where decisions are time-sensitive and directly linked to financial outcomes. The OTS team supports Trading Operations and Front Office teams by managing critical operational and commercial interfaces with external service providers.
The intern will interact with a wide range of stakeholders (trading desks, operations, invoicing, legal, compliance) and external partners across inspection, logistics, customs and shipping services, gaining a rare, end-to-end understanding of how trading operations actually work.
