JOB DESCRIPTION:
The MSL Manager is primarily a people leader and field medical strategist, responsible for building and developing a high-performing regional MSL organization, driving cross-functional collaboration with regional sales leadership, and ensuring excellence in medical execution across France.
Position Purpose
The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) Manager leads and develops a team of regional Medical Science Liaisons across France, ensuring excellence in scientific engagement with healthcare professionals, key opinion leaders, and healthcare organizations.
The role is responsible for building a high-performing field medical organization, driving execution of the Medical Affairs strategy, developing talent, and ensuring consistent scientific support across all regions.
The MSL Manager plays a key leadership role in fostering effective collaboration between Medical Affairs and regional commercial organizations, ensuring a coordinated and customer-centric approach to stakeholder engagement across France.
As a key member of the Medical Affairs Team, the MSL Manager translates strategic priorities into effective field execution and provides actionable medical insights to support evidence generation, stakeholder engagement, and patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Development
* Lead, coach, and develop a team of regional MSLs.
* Foster a culture of scientific excellence, accountability, and collaboration.
* Conduct regular field coaching and performance reviews.
* Support individual development plans
* Promote employee engagement and talent retention.
Recruitment & Onboarding
* Lead recruitment and selection of MSLs ( when appropriate)
* Ensure successful onboarding of new team members.
* Build capabilities through training, mentoring, and coaching programs.
Strategic Field Medical Execution
* Develop and implement the National Field Medical Plan and Regional ones
* Monitor execution of regional engagement plans.
* Drive collection and communication of actionable field insights.
Scientific Engagement
* Oversee strategic interactions with KOLs and scientific experts.
* Ensure high-quality scientific exchange and medical education activities.
* Support evidence-generation initiatives, including IIS and collaborative research.
* Maintain Abbott's scientific reputation within the diabetes community.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
* Develop strong and collaborative partnerships with Regional Sales Managers and field leadership teams.
* Ensure alignment of Medical Affairs priorities with regional business needs while maintaining Medical Affairs independence.
* Promote effective collaboration between MSLs and commercial teams to maximize stakeholder engagement and customer value.
* Participate in regional business reviews and planning meetings to provide medical insights and identify opportunities.
* Support the development of integrated regional engagement plans targeting key healthcare stakeholders.
* Ensure consistent communication and coordination between Medical Affairs and Sales teams across all regions.
* Act as a strategic medical partner to regional leadership teams and contribute to the achievement of affiliate objectives.
* Interact with EMEA MSL managers and /or MSLS for best practice sharing
Compliance & Governance
* Ensure all activities comply with applicable laws, regulations, industry codes, and Abbott policies.
* Promote the highest standards of ethics, quality, and scientific integrity.
Experience & Qualifications
Required
* Advanced scientific degree (PharmD, MD, PhD or equivalent).
* Significant experience within Medical Affairs, healthcare, pharmaceutical, medical device or diagnostics industries.
* Previous people management experience.
* Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and develop teams.
* Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
* Fluent French and English.
Preferred
* Experience in Diabetes Care.
* Previous MSL leadership experience.
* Experience in clinical research, evidence generation, or scientific partnerships.
