Role Overview
LSEG is seeking a forward-thinking Observability Engineer to join our Network Engineering function. This role is pivotal to defining and delivering our observability strategy-making our systems measurable, reliable, and continually improving. You'll operate at the intersection of software engineering, SRE, and platform operations, enabling teams across LSEG to turn telemetry into actionable insight and to maximise the value of our observability platforms.
Key Responsibilities
* Design and operate scalable telemetry pipelines for metrics, logs, traces, and events across distributed systems.
* Define and maintain standards for instrumentation, NMS tooling, dashboards, alerting, and SLIs/SLOs, partnering with product and platform teams.
* Champion procedures in monitoring, incident response, and post-incident learning across engineering teams.
* Integrate and optimise observability tools (e.g., OpenTelemetry, Kafka, Cribl, ClickHouse, Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, Elastic, Loki) within the NPS ecosystem.
* Embed observability in the SDLC, including CI/CD guardrails, pre-/post-deployment health checks, and automated validations.
* Drive adoption through enablement, documentation, and training that upskills engineers and reduces operational toil.
* Continuously evaluate emerging practices and technologies to evolve our capabilities and reduce time-to-detect/resolve.
Required Skills & Experience
* Shown success in observability, SRE, or platform engineering within complex, distributed environments.
* Strong hands-on expertise with telemetry and analytics tooling (e.g., OpenTelemetry, Kafka, Cribl, ClickHouse, Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, Elastic, Loki).
* Proficiency in at least one programming language (Python, Go, or Java) and infrastructure-as-code (e.g., Terraform, Ansible).
* Deep understanding of cloud-native architectures (Kubernetes, micro-services, service meshes).
* Experience defining and leading SLIs/SLOs and alerting strategies that minimise noise and drive action.
* Validated strength in technical design reviews, code reviews, architecture runway planning, and pragmatic decision-making.
* Hands-on design and validation of API integrations, secure token flows, context-propagation mechanisms (MCP), and agent-to-agent (A2A) orchestration.
Desirable
* Background in regulated or financial-services environments.
* Contributions to open-source observability projects or communities.
Why Join Us
* Be part of a pivotal initiative redefining how LSEG builds and operates resilient, data-driven systems.
* Work with ground breaking technologies and shape the future of observability at enterprise scale.
* Collaborate with dedicated engineers across product, platform, and operations.
* Enjoy a flexible, hybrid working model and a culture that values innovation, ownership, and continuous learning.
