For 12 weeks, beginning May 20, 2024, interns will have an opportunity to gain a deep understanding of what it means to be a Medidatian. Our Summer Internship program also includes instructor led training, guided mentorship, exposure to senior leadership and community service. In addition to individual and specific related responsibilities, each intern will participate in our Intern Innovation Lab. Assigned to cross-functional teams, interns will work closely to develop an innovative solution to a business problem currently facing Medidata. As they work diligently to present their final solutions to a panel of top Medidata leaders, we are confident that our interns will make a significant impact on our business. The Position: Medidata is looking to revolutionize the conduct of clinical trials through the use of Large Language Models (LLM). We are looking for an intellectually curious individual who can help us develop novel new ways of incorporating LLMs in understanding clinical trial protocols. We hope to leverage these insights in ways that allow clinical trials to be run more efficiently and cost effectively. Include goals / objectives; product area(s) We will be exploring the ways LLM can be used to process clinical trial protocols in ways that make them amenable to machine learning. This includes looking for early signs that a protocol might have high screen failure rates, high drop out rates, or low recruitment rates. Furthermore, we hope to be able to predict other operational metrics such cost, and develop products that help clients balance the competing interests of cost and scientific validity. Which roles and people will the intern will be working with This role will work alongside the Labs AI team as well the Intelligent Trials product team to develop prototypes and formulate a path for integration into the wider Medidata ecosystem. What specific experience or skills will be gained, and what can they include into their portfolio after the internship is over? Individuals who participate this program will get a chance to work on the cutting edge of AI and get experience with both LLMs/NLP and clinical data. Currently a student in a Master or PhD program that has a heavy focus on software engineering such as Computer Science, Statistics, Computational (Biology/Chemistry), Physics or Mathematics Familiarity with standard software engineering practices such as writing Unit Tests, using source control Familiarity with the Linux command line
