Ben-Gurion University of the Negev (BGU)

I was really excited to learn Hebrew when I was planning this trip. But became discouraged and frustrated when the teachers didn't have time to help you one on one and all the home assignments were never graded. THis makes it more difficult to have a continuing lesson in the subject. Also, I don't think there were enough levels that met the students' needs. Many of us that had some previous Hebrew were either put in the lowest or the middle groups were we were either too proficient or not enough to learn anything usable in the class.

It was warm, with great people always around. There is an awesome interaction with Israeli students which is very rewarding in many ways.

The only thing that would make the housing better is if the university could have a program by which the Israeli students had to interview and want to be a "buddy" of their potential overseas roommate - to ensure that students would get placed with roommates who would take the time to get to know them and show them around.

It was really nice, convenient and easily accessible from anywhere in the city.

cost-saving tip: do not get a phone. most people do, but it's a hassle and very expensive. instead, use phone cards.

As long as you keep busy and get along with your flatmates, there's really no problem.
