Wanted to learn the basics of the host language, but we didn't have the possibilities, there was no course in norwegian. You could speak English with everybody in the country. It helped to improve the knowledge. I never had communication problems.

In Norway virtually everybody speaks English, even in the supermarkets. Therefore it was not really worth the trouble learning Norwegian, when you don't have that as a target.
The level of Enlish of the teachers was not always very good.

Knowledge of the local language is not necessary at all. Local people speak English very well, communication with the other exchange students is a good practice, if you don't feel very confident about it.

As Norwegian is not a common language in Europe, it was not so easy to learn it. But a good point was that almost every Norwegian is fluent in English. This way, it was very easy to communicate everywhere in Bergen , even in supermarkets, transports,etc... with local people.

It was very good, because you are used to speak a foreign language... I came back in Greece and I had the feeling that I had to speak English and not Greek,
