My favorite spots were the Roost and Glen Royal hotel. There was never a wrong time to stop by the pub for a pint.

Housing
Type of housing: With a family
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: With a family
Why?
In order to get the most out of one's trip to a foreign country, that person must immerse him or herself in that country's culture. The best way to do this is by living with a host family.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay with my host family, and though I know it would be unfair to base my impression of Ireland entirely on them, they did make a very good impression upon me.

Academic
Course recommendations
There was no problem with the actual courses per se, but there had been some sort of miscommunication on the part of our home contact and our host contact. The group I was a part of was under the impression that we were going to be taking part in an anthropology/archaeology program, which definitely was not the case. We ended up concentrating solely on history and sociology for most of our time there.

Maynooth appears to have an excellent program, and I've heard that their anthropology program is equally excellent. I've recently read "The Celtic Tiger: The End of Irish History," which was co-authored by two professors at Maynooth.

I wish I had known...
I wish that I'd known that when the Irish ask you if you've had any "good craec" lately, that they're not asking you if you've had any good drugs in the past few days.

If you think you like Guinness here in the states, you're going to worship the Guinness god when you have your very first pint of Guinness.
