Personal comments
Some universities have exchange programs with Universidad del Salvador that include a study grant, housing and food in the cantine. The university housing in that case is for three students in well-located appartments throughout the city. Otherwise the university will only help you with addresses of hotels and youth hostels and you have to find housing yourself.

Personal spending habits
It has to be considered that when I went there the country was still 1=1 with the Dollar. That was when Bs As was as expensive as New York. everything costed more than at home. After the economic meltdown and evaluation in November 2001 the country became more cheap that my country of study (netherlands).

Leave your money on the bank of your home country. You will easily be able to access it from almost any bank. But during the time I stayed in Argentina it did not seem a good choice to put your money on an Argentinean bank.

Academic
Course recommendations
Take spanish courses so you will definitely meet the other exchange students. A good opportunity to build up social contacts, as locals mostly have their social environment and do not interact as much with the exchangers.

I wish I had known...
One can easily meet other exchange students through the foreign office at school. There are activities and in the Spanish class you will meet people in the same situation. Very important: The exchange program that some universities have with Universidad del Salvador= inform whether they have it with your school or whether they can build it up. In that case you will have housing arranged, food in the cantine and maybe a grant. Makes things a lot easier.

Personal recommendation
You should be independent and easily to meet people. Because the local students do not interact that much with exchangers. You will have to contact people. The exchange students are quite open-minded and easily to access.

Final comments
Learn the language in advance. Most of your environments only speaks spanish. Travel as much as you can. There are plenty of things to see. I went to Uruguay, Bolivia, Peru and Chile. Bolivia and Peru are poor but landscape is beautiful.

Hardly anyone speaks English. Spanish dominated life in Argentina. That forces you to learn the language. If anyways you plan learning the language it is a good way to make it happen.
