Job TitleApprentice SENA Software Developer

About the business area/department:

The ABR (Amadeus Business Rules) team manages Amadeus's corporate rule engine, which allows applications to define and customize business processes using functional criteria without development constraints

This position is to be hired under the SENA Apprentice contract.

Summary of the Internship:

The Software Developer Apprentice in ABR would work on the following projects and areas:
Core Product - ABR Suite (MDS)

The main project is the ABR rule engine itself, built on a C++ Open Back-End called MDS (Middleware Data Server). This includes the four ABR products:

* Rules - business rule management
* Markets - geographical location aggregation
* Point of Sale - purchase point identification
* Flight Groups - flight aggregation

The apprentice contributes to the development and maintenance of ABR, the corporate rule engine in Amadeus architecture. Working within the Bogotá-based Scrum team, the trainee gains hands-on experience across the full software development lifecycle while being guided by senior team members.

In this role you'll:

* Attend the Daily Stand-up (~15 min) - answer three questions: What did you do yesterday? What will you do today? Any blockers?
* Update your Jira tickets with status comments and log your work before the standup
* Check the ABR Support Teams channel for any urgent cases or questions from client applications
* Code development - write, debug, and test C++/Java/Python code on the MDS (Middleware Data Server) codebase
* Code reviews - submit pull requests to the ABR repository on Bitbucket and review peers' code
* Unit testing - run ABR non-regression tests locally and write new unit tests for your changes
* Documentation - update technical documentation, lessons learned, and Confluence pages
* Sheriffing (when on rotation) - monitor Win@proach/ServiceNow for incoming support cases, triage issues, investigate bugs, and coordinate with client teams. The support week rotates among team members Friday to Friday, with two profiles: functional and technical sheriff.

Technology/tools used:

* C++
* Python
* Java
* Shell / Zsh
* SQL

Technology/skills you will learn:

* Working on a large-scale middleware system (MDS) that handles millions of transactions.
* Learning memory management, performance optimization, and debugging in a production-grade C++ codebase.
* Understanding Amadeus coding standards and best practices

About the ideal candidate:

* University degree/SENA student in Computer Science or related field.
* Knowledge of programming languages such as Java, C++, Python; English level desired but not restrictive.
* Ability to break down complex problems into smaller, manageable parts. Logical reasoning to trace bugs through multiple layers (application → middleware → database). Reading and interpreting logs, error messages, and system behavior
* Proposing new technical solutions or improvements to existing systems. Creative thinking when troubleshooting production incidents. Willingness to explore alternative approaches when the first attempt doesn't work
* Taking ownership of assigned tasks and delivering results. Managing time and effort to optimize efficiency. Being proactive - don't wait to be told what to do, identify what needs attention.
* Motivation to learn, good team collaboration skills, and interest in backend/middleware development.
* English proficiency (desirable)

This position is to be hired under the SENA Apprentice contract.
