Overview

PepsiCo Carrigaline is offering an Electrical Apprenticeship within its Maintenance Engineering function, supporting a state-of-the-art food and beverage manufacturing facility.

The Electrical Apprentice will complete the SOLAS national standards-based Electrical Apprenticeship, gaining structured on-the-job experience at PepsiCo Carrigaline alongside formal off-the-job training. The role is designed to develop the apprentice into a fully qualified Craft Electrician, capable of safely maintaining, fault-finding, and supporting critical manufacturing and utility equipment in a GMP-regulated environment.
Responsibilities

Under the supervision of qualified Craft Electricians and Maintenance Engineering Leaders, the Electrical Apprentice will:
* Complete all on-the-job training and assigned tasks in line with SOLAS apprenticeship standards
* Assist with the installation, maintenance, fault-finding, and repair of electrical systems and plant equipment
* Support electrical/mechanical maintenance activities on production lines, utilities, and site infrastructure
* Participate in planned preventive maintenance (PPM) and breakdown response to minimise equipment downtime
* Learn to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and technical manuals
* Support work on motors, drives, sensors, panels, control systems, and basic automation equipment
* Record maintenance activities accurately using PepsiCo's Computerised Maintenance Management System
* Work closely with electrical, mechanical, and production teams to support safe and reliable operations
* Actively engage in site safety, reliability, and continuous improvement initiatives
Health, Safety, Quality & Food Safety
* Carry out all work in strict compliance with PepsiCo Health & Safety policies and electrical safety procedures
* Adhere to lock-out/tag-out, permit-to-work, and safe isolation practices at all times.
* Comply fully with GMP, hygiene, and food safety requirements associated with a food & beverage manufacturing environment
* Wear required PPE and maintain high standards of housekeeping
* Report hazards, incidents, and near-misses immediately
Apprenticeship & Development Requirements
The successful candidate must:
* Be formally registered on the SOLAS Electrical Apprenticeship programme
* Successfully complete all required off-the-job phases (college-based training) as assigned by SOLAS
* Demonstrate commitment to learning, attendance, and academic progress throughout the apprenticeship
* Build technical competence and confidence progressively through on-the-job experience
* Act in a professional manner in line with PepsiCo values and site expectations

Qualifications

Essential Requirements
* Leaving Certificate (or equivalent), including Mathematics
* Eligibility to register for the SOLAS Electrical Apprenticeship
* Strong interest in electrical and industrial engineering
* Willingness to work in a manufacturing environment (shift patterns and on-call may apply over time)
* Strong safety awareness and attention to detail
* Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team
Desirable
* Prior exposure to a technical, electrical, or mechanical environment (school projects, work experience, PLC courses, QQI modules, etc.)
* Interest in automation, manufacturing technology, or industrial systems
* Basic understanding of electrical principles or controls
