Duties and Responsibilities
This internship is in the Office of the Under-Secretary-General for Global Communications (OUSG) within the Department of Global Communications (DGC). DGC is responsible for promoting awareness and understanding of the UN's work, values, and impact. Operating across 60 countries and communicating in more than 80 languages, DGC reaches global audiences through strategic campaigns, media relations, digital content, and outreach activities - sharing trusted information and an inclusive message that enables the public, civil society, private sector and Member States to engage in the work of the United Nations. The incumbent will report to the Special Assistant in the OUSG. Within delegated authority, the communications intern may be responsible for the following duties: * Draft, edit, and proofread a variety of written materials, including reports, briefing notes, correspondence, and other content for internal and external audiences. * Support the development of social media content by drafting posts and adapting messaging for different platforms. * Conduct research and compile information to inform and strengthen communication outputs. * Maintain organized records of working documents, finalized materials, and related assets. * Provide support on additional tasks for the Office of the Under-Secretary-General (OUSG) as required. Qualifications/special skills
To qualify for an internship with the United Nations New York Headquarters Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met: * Applicants must: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or, (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent). * Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Please list your area of study. * Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master's or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor's, Master's or PH.D. Programme. Do you meet any of the above criteria? If yes, please indicate which one and attach proof to the application. Please note that you will have to provide an official certificate at a later stage.

Languages
English or French are the working languages of the United Nations. For the internship advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official language of the United Nations (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) is desirable.

Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken, may be required to obtain the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization.
