Job Purpose

To assist the Section Head-Safety & Environment & management in fulfillment of statutory requirements related to safety and environment management.
To initiate, monitor & review HINDALCO Safety Systems, environment & safety management systems for minimizing the risks & environmental impacts in line with applicable laws and regulations.

Job Context:
With rapid growth in downstream operations of Hindalco, Hindalco is scaling up its capability to producing better quality products and enhancing production base to cater to growing domestic and export markets. Being high end products, customers are more demanding and it is imperative for Hindalco to meet all explicit and implicit needs of the customers. Capital investments are playing pivotal role to enhance the productivity and quality. Project Management includes feasibility study, Identification of new projects keeping in view Productivity, safety, energy & resources conservation, estimating and budgeting new Projects cost, finalize Capex plan for the financial year & achieve approved cash flow by executing approved projects like New 11 KV Switchboard, New Soaking Pit, Spool Clearing system, Zero Liquid discharge, Coil Dressing station, SLC girder replacement, etc.

Job Challenges: * The statutory norms with respect to safety and environment protection is becoming very stringent day by day therefore it is very important and challenging to comply with these requirements in a given scenario.
* In some of the plant sections hazardous chemicals are handled and therefore the risk potential is very high.
* Taloja plant is 49 years old plant and therefore some of the equipment condition has deteriorated and therefore needs more attention from safety point of view.
* Ensuring EHS compliance for New Projects & ensuring safety during installation and commissioning of project.
* Many new trainees have been recruited and also multiskilling and multifunction being implemented, the skills levels are low and there is higher likelihood of accidents.
* Many jobs are outsourced and thereby ensuring adherence to safety norms by the new contractors and contract employees is a constant challenge.
* Advance Safety systems like E-Permit, Enablon, BBSO, CSM are getting upgraded till digitalization and need quick support for its smooth functioning.

KRA1
* Environment Health & Safety Mgt.
Install, monitor and EH& S management systems, programmes and procedures to comply with E H & S policy and targets.

Motivate and guide Line management in implementation of procedures and solutions to reduce E H & S impact of relevant activities by through safe work practices, procedures, materials, new equipment or modification of existing equipment.

Carry out periodic inspection / audits to identify problem areas and review EHS Mgt. System for identifying opportunities for improvement and implement the same.

Review and report progress on dealing with issues of EH & S and applicable legal requirements to the Section Head-Safety & Environment on daily basis.

Support the Investigation of all serious accidents and environmental incidents and report formally to the Section Head-Safety & Environment and monitor compliance of corrective and preventive actions.
Co-ordinate all the activities for maintenance of ISO 14001 & OHSAS 18001 certification.
During project executing ensuring safe working and while commissioning ensuring adherence to safety norms.
