ABB Corporate Research, in close collaboration with its different business areas, is developing the foundations for the next generation of ABB products. We would like to give a motivated student an opportunity to complete a six-month internship with a multidisciplinary team at the Sensing and Analytics group of ABB.

 

At ABB, we are developing advanced technological solutions that are based on various sensing modalities.

 

During this internship, you will have an opportunity to work on different aspects of a high-precision laser-based gas sensing system. The focus is on sample handling and conditioning, laser spectroscopy and sensor technology. You will work with top-performance laser analyzers for high-demand industrial applications. 

 

Your role and responsibilities

* Testing and working on trace-level gas handling and conditioning system in the laboratory
* Developing sensing technologies for detection of trace-level gases
* Data collection, analysis and interpretation of results
* Review of academic literature
* Regular reporting and contribution to decision-making in elaboration of potential solutions 

Qualifications for the role

* You currently pursue a degree (enrollment to 5th semester or higher is essential) in Physics, Photonics, Optoelectronics, Chemical Engineering, and Electrical Engineering
* You are interested in the following fields: Laser spectroscopy, laser physics, optics, sensor technology, sample handling and conditioning, signal processing, data analysis
* You have experience with Matlab and Python
* You are willing to learn and ready to handle new research topics
* You are self-motivated and have a practical approach
* You are able to think conceptually and express ideas clearly and convincingly
* You are at ease communicating in English
