What is Graduate Researcher Program?
The GRP (Graduate Researcher Program) is a unique 10-12 week internship program designed specifically for students pursuing their PhD. GRP is a hybrid experience of real-world industry work experience combined with development programming that exposes students to Boeing, its products, services and its people. GRP focuses on deeply connecting students to their team and Boeing through work experience across multiple summers with the goal of ultimately offering a full-time position at the conclusion of academic studies if a mutual fit is achieved.

How GRP Works:
GRP host teams post opportunities aligned with Boeing needs in hopes of matching to top PhD talent. Upon application and selection, successful applicants receive an offer to spend the following summer with the host team. The program aims to provide interns with a valuable opportunity to gain deeper experience at Boeing with their host team, while applying academic skills and expertise to help solve real-world industry challenges and opportunities.
In addition to industry work exposure, students will attend GRP programming to further broaden their experience and knowledge of Boeing. GRP programming includes: mentorship in your field of study, weekly Featured Speaker Talks, a week-long in-person GRP Summit, participation in an Innovation Challenge, and other opportunities to interact and build a professional network with other GRP students, Boeing team members, and leadership.

Please note: The work you do at Boeing can be related to your area of study, but cannot contribute or be used in your PhD thesis.

We are seeking students who will have completed their first year of study in their PhD program by July 2026 and are passionate about the aerospace industry and Boeing. The position is with the AI & Autonomy (AIA) group within E&TI. The AIA group is looking for a top-notch Autonomy Engineering Intern to assist in the development of common capabilities across Commercial and Military programs. This organization was stood up in June 2023, to address the growing need for autonomous capabilities across the Enterprise. AIA seeks to develop and deliver common capabilities - autonomy development infrastructure, autonomous capabilities, and component functions for autonomy, to a range of programs, including Wisk, MQ-25, MQ-28, Tanker, Chinook, BCA Future Product Study, XLUUV, Scan Eagle, etc. AIA will work closely with the Business Units (BUs), who are doing product, and platform-specific development. Some initial 'common capabilities priorities' we have identified include Detect and Avoid, Contingency Management, Mission Plan Validation, and Collaborative Autonomy, and we are actively launching and executing projects in this area, working closely with BU programs like Wisk, MQ-25, MQ-28, and commercial airplanes.

Job Related Information / Qualifications:
* Completed the first year of PhD studies by July 2026
* Pursuing a PhD in Computer Science/Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or similar related field.
* Enrolled student attending a college or university with an expected graduation date on or after August 2026
* Ability to work full-time for 10-12 weeks during Summer 2026
Preferred Qualifications:
* You are eager to work in a fast past cutting edge engineering environment with a strong desire to work in the Autonomy domain. Your school curriculum is an important basis for the activities associated with this position.
* You have a strong technical background, with a desire to apply this to the development of new and complex systems and components. You also have strong interpersonal skills to work with subject matter experts as well as peers on the team to create deliverables.
* Desirable Skills/Knowledge include: Programming in Python/C++, autonomy algorithm development (in the areas of Perception, State Estimation/Localization, Planning & Decision Making, and Control), Docker, Machine Learning, Model Based Systems Engineering / SysML / Cameo, Matlab / Simulink, and Verification & Validation of autonomous systems.
