Expected duration
Three (3) months, with the possibility of extension, full-time, start date 15 September 2026.

Duties and Responsibilities
The internship positions are located in the General Assembly and ECOSOC Affairs Division (GAEAD) of the United Nations Department for General Assembly and Conference Management (DGACM) in New York. GAEAD provides procedural and technical support to the General Assembly Plenary, four of its Main Committees (I-IV), and a number of its subsidiary bodies. GAEAD also services the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), as well as a number of its subsidiary bodies. Interns' responsibilities might include, but are not necessarily limited to: * assisting in the preparation of procedural notes for intergovernmental meetings, and other preparatory tasks; * attending and summarizing intergovernmental meetings; * assisting with logistics during meetings, including interactive presentations, virtual connections and assisting with the list of speakers; * undertaking historical research and examination of procedural precedents; * undertaking media-based analysis and research; * compiling statistics, as well as design and tabulation of charts, tables, and graphs; * maintaining databases of meetings based on requests and actual conduct of meetings and assists with the collection and analysis of data; * contributing to the drafting/preparation of notes, talking points, and other papers and briefing materials; * updating/redesigning websites and links; and * performing other tasks as necessary.

Qualifications/special skills
To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met: 1. Applicants must at the beginning of the internship (a) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); OR b) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree, equivalent or higher); OR (c) have completed university studies within the last year (after 14 September 2025). Please indicate which of the requirement (a) to (c) you fulfil and attach proof to the application. You may have to provide an official certificate at a later stage. 2. Be computer literate in standard software applications, especially in Microsoft 365 Products and Google Docs Editors. 3. Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the United Nations Charter. 4. Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. However, your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.

Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For these internship positions, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language is an advantage.

Additional Information
This is a full-time internship. Interns without United States citizenship or U.S. Lawful Permanent Residency (LPR) need to apply for a G-4 visa. This internship cannot be undertaken on the basis of an F-1 or J-1 visa. You may not apply for this internship if your parents are staff members of the UN Secretariat or if you completed already six months of internship with the United Nations. A completed online application (Motivational Statement, Job Requirements Questions and Candidate Profile) is required. The motivational statement must: (i) include the name of your latest study programme, the university for that programme and your graduation date; (ii) describe your interest in the United Nations Internship Programme; and (iii) explain why you are the best candidate for this specific internship. Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken, may be required to obtain the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization. Successful candidates should discuss their specific visa requirements before accepting the internship offer.
