Our team and mission
The Directorate of Human and Robotic Exploration is the main ESA entity in charge of supporting and coordinating efforts towards the current and the future endeavors of human spaceflight. The exploration activities are part of the strategic plans in securing a central role for Europe with respect to the global initiatives. The European Exploration Envelope Programme (E3P) is integrating the ESA activities in this field to ensure a single exploration process. The strategy includes three destinations where humans will work with robots to gather new knowledge: Low Earth Orbit (LEO), the Moon, and Mars.
The European Astronaut Centre (EAC) is the European centre of excellence for astronaut training, operations and space medicine. Home to ESA's astronaut corps, it equips Europeans to fly to the International Space Station today, while preparing for an exciting future of space exploration beyond low Earth orbit.
The ESA HRE-OO team and its subsidiary, the EAC Crew Operations Support (ECOS) team are responsible for the operational preparation and real-time execution support of technology demonstrators in crew support, medical operations, and training on the International Space Station, as well as the integration and operation of European payloads and support to ESA activities for the Lunar Gateway and future low Earth orbit platforms.

Field(s) of activity/research for the traineeship
This ESA Graduate Trainee position contributes to the preparation and evolution of future flight operations techniques & software for ESA lead activities e.g. Analysing Interferometer for ambient Air-2 (ANITA-2) and its evolutions.
The role supports the ECOS team in mission planning, operational tools development e.g. ANITA-2 Data Directory (A2D2) data visualisation Software and operational readiness for human spaceflight activities in Low Earth Orbit (LEO) and the Lunar Gateway.
You will contribute to the development and assessment of mission operations support tools, software and flight operations techniques, with the objective of improving efficiency, coordination, and pushing for evolution of support software for future crewed exploration missions.

Education
You should have just completed, or be in the final year of your master' s degree in e.g. Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, AI, AI Machine Learning, Computer Engineering.
Additional requirements
You should have good interpersonal and communication skills and should be able to work in a multicultural environment, both independently and as part of a team. Previous experience of working in international teams can be considered an asset. Your motivation, overall professional perspective and career goals will also be explored during the later stages of the selection process.
You should also have:
* Software development and programming experience.
Skills in software programming will be considered as an asset for this post.
