Job overview: We're expanding the team in our National Trading Centre and seeking a Mid-Market Fleet Underwriter. As a Fleet Underwriter you'll deliver on the Trading team targets through the profitable underwriting of fleet risks within agreed authority levels. This role offers vital opportunities to drive growth, enhance technical and trading capabilities, and deliver exceptional service to our customers. By building strong relationships with brokers and internal teams, you'll help set the foundation for the branch's ongoing success and development. Key responsibilities: Underwrite new and existing business accurately and profitably, following established rules and using all available tools and appetite. Gather information, understand policy details, and stay informed about industry trends to assess risks accurately. Set appropriate premiums based on technical pricing. Build trust with brokers and customers by asking the right questions to understand their needs and create solutions that meet those needs. Develop strong relationships both outside and inside the company. Respond promptly to broker requests and keep them updated on ongoing activities. Visit and work with brokers regularly to strengthen relationships and improve results. Become a trusted expert with brokers and collaborate with the Underwriting Technical Centre to boost confidence in the branch's capabilities. Participate in meetings with brokers and clients to showcase AXA's strengths and win new business. Help control losses by applying underwriting controls consistently. Work arrangements: At AXA we work smart, empowering our people to balance their time between home and the office in a way that works best for them, their team and our customers. You'll work at least three days a week (60%) away from home. Away from home means either attendance at our office location, visiting clients or attending industry events. If your location is outside of Bolton then you'll be required to visit the Bolton office on a weekly basis. Our anchor day for being in Bolton is a Tuesday. Your skills & experience: Technical underwriting expertise, ideally within a composite insurance environment, broker or MGA. Experience of underwriting fleet insurance but a background in P&C or Financial Lines would also be considered. Robust trading capability - commercial awareness, negotiation skills and the ability to build solid broker relationships. Pragmatic and confident decision maker with good numerical reasoning skills. Sound knowledge of legislative and regulatory requirements for insurance. Good organisation and planning skills. Cert CII qualification with DIP CII desirable. As a precondition of employment for this role, you must be eligible and authorised to work in the United Kingdom. This position has been defined as an Insurance Distribution Directive (IDD) role under the IDD regime which means that in addition to pre-employment screening checks, the successful candidate will be subject to background screening every 4 years with an annual declaration in interim years.
