The line maintenance lead and planner is responsible for implementing, maintaining, and continuously improving the Maintenance Planning and Scheduling and Breakdown Elimination Daily Management Systems for their area. They coach line teams to strengthen technical capabilities and ensure alignment with other progressive maintenance systems.
Responsibilities
Leadership
Actively participate in line Daily Direction Setting (DDS) meetings and support the execution of the daily plan.
Report on the following results from the previous 24 hours:
* Ensure the work order backlog is current and organized for reporting to support the compelling business need (CBN).
* Manage planned maintenance using the SIMPTWW framework (safety, information, materials, people, tools, where, and when).
* Maintain the job plan archive in SAP.
* Lead the daily review of completed jobs, other maintenance activities, and the current day's plan - adjusting as needed based on scheduled work, completed tasks, and unexpected changes.
* Coordinate with the line lead, process lead, and line team to align planned stops with SAP work orders and maintenance tasks.
* Lead the weekly and monthly planning meeting to schedule maintenance work for the upcoming week and month in alignment with the annual maintenance plan and known future tasks.
Track and report maintenance indicator results and in-process measures
* Identify and address activities - or the lack of activity - that negatively impact maintenance results. Escalate issues to the appropriate resources when needed.
* Use maintenance Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and in-process measures to assess the performance of the Maintenance Planning and Scheduling system and to evaluate equipment reliability. Share these results with department leadership during monthly meetings.
* Monitor the health of the Progressive Maintenance Daily Management System and supporting work systems. Work with the line team to implement corrective actions across the following areas:
* Breakdown elimination
* Maintenance planning and scheduling
* Autonomous maintenance: Clean, inspect, lubricate; centerline; and defect handling - act as the step 4 subject matter resource.
* Maintenance costs
* Parts usage and lifecycle
Develop improvement plans
* Identify improvement opportunities by tracking maintenance indicators and in-process measures.
* Identify losses and define improvement themes to eliminate them.
* Own, develop, and track action plans related to improvement themes.
Champion and lead the continuous improvement process
* Champion equipment design change proposals (corrective maintenance) and manage change management procedures, including adding, deleting, or modifying follow-up work.
* Maintain technical documentation to ensure equipment drawings and schematics are complete, accurate, accessible, and user-friendly.
* Participate in vendor acceptance testing and other new product or equipment initiatives.
* Take part in Progressive Maintenance (PM) Pillar activities and own a site-level PM system when required.
Reporting
* Depending on site complexity, the maintenance lead may report to either the line lead or the technical department manager.
They receive additional coaching from autonomous maintenance teams, progressive maintenance resources, the plant's Progressive Maintenance Pillar owner, and storeroom personnel.
Qualifications
* Maintenance training and basic Integrated Work System and high performance organization training.
* Strong organizational and technical skills.
* Ability to set priorities effectively.
* Strong communication, coaching, and training capabilities.
* Practical skills in equipment handling and tool use.
* Proficiency in autonomous maintenance steps 0-4, including the ability to teach work point analysis and understand line transformations.
* Knowledge of progressive maintenance steps 1-4.
* Understanding of structured problem-solving processes.
* Completion of Maintenance Planning and Scheduling and Breakdown Elimination workshops.
* Familiarity with maintenance management information systems and storeroom operations.
* Basic computer literacy.
* Knowledge of visual standards used in autonomous and progressive maintenance.
