About you and this role
You are a hands-on, safety-focused operations professional who thrives in a plant environment. You take ownership of equipment performance, react efficiently to unplanned events, and maintain a steady, reliable operation. You are detail-oriented, disciplined, and proactive in identifying risks or improvement opportunities. You enjoy teamwork, communicate clearly during shift handovers, and take pride in maintaining operational excellence.This role is responsible for the safe and reliable operation of assigned plant equipment and areas. You will perform routine tasks, monitor process conditions, support troubleshooting, and uphold all Operating Discipline requirements. You are expected to use your operational knowledge to maintain optimal plant performance while ensuring compliance with safety, reliability, and quality standards. You will collaborate closely with shift teams, help resolve plant upsets, and may train less experienced operators. The position requires strong operational discipline and the ability to respond effectively to both planned and unplanned events.
Responsibilities
* Follow Operating Discipline policies, procedures, and standards to ensure safe and efficient plant operation. Operate, monitor, and field-check process equipment to maintain optimal conditions aligned with plant and business goals.
* Perform scheduled operational tasks and handle activities that arise during unplanned events.
* Collaborate with shift team members to balance workload and complete assigned tasks on time.
* Conduct effective shift relief to ensure smooth communication and operational continuity. Maintain required qualifications and complete all training goals on schedule.
* Mentor and train new or existing operators in troubleshooting, process operations, and use of Operating Discipline tools. Participate in immediate response activities as assigned. Initiate and document preliminary investigations and support root cause analysis for plant events.
* Track key performance metrics to identify improvement opportunities and optimize plant performance.Perform autonomous maintenance activities, including minor repairs and preventive maintenance. Proactively identify operational improvements, support Management of Change (MOC) processes, and use facility improvement tools.
Qualifications
* Preferred: Associate's Degree (Short-Cycle Tertiary Degree) in Process Technology or a related technical field.
* Required if no degree: Equivalent years of operational, manufacturing, or process operations experience.
* Production Unit certifications typically required (site-specific).
Your Skills
* Strong understanding of process operations, equipment monitoring, and plant reliability.
* Ability to troubleshoot operational issues and respond to unplanned events. Strong communication skills, especially during shift handovers.
* Good teamwork and collaboration with cross-shift teams.
* Ability to mentor and train less experienced operators. Strong safety awareness and commitment to following procedures.
* Ability to interpret plant metrics to optimize performance.
* Basic technical/mechanical skills for autonomous maintenance tasks.
