USA - Tax - Indirect Tax - Sales and Use Tax - Intern - Summer 2027

Will you shape the future or will the future shape you?

The opportunity

Join our dynamic EY Tax team, where our global expertise and deep technical knowledge across all tax disciplines are enhanced by the latest in innovation and cutting-edge technology. We pride ourselves on exceptional client service, strong accountability, and governance, making us the top choice for industry executives and the largest revenue-generating US and global tax practice.
Our Indirect Tax practices navigate the complexities of state and local taxes, which often constitute a company's largest tax burden and are on the rise globally. Our approach helps businesses understand their tax liabilities, identify risks and opportunities, and align with their broader tax strategy, reinforcing the critical role of tax and finance in the modern business landscape. Learn from our experienced professionals, cutting-edge technology, and proven methodologies to effectively manage our clients' indirect tax posture.

Your Key Responsibilities

Handling tax in such a large, sophisticated organization takes more than just a technical understanding of current tax practices. As a Sales and Use Tax Intern, we'll look to you to build and apply your knowledge to a wide range of tax areas and processes, participating in strategic outcomes to some very complex issues. In return, you can expect the support of some of the most engaging colleagues around, as well as plenty of opportunities to progress your career.

It's fair to say there's no average day for a Sales and Use Tax Intern - so you're likely to spend your time on a diverse array of projects, responsibilities and tasks. Whatever you're working on, our clients will turn to you for up-to-the-minute tax advice they can always rely on. To make that happen, you'll be working in a highly collaborative culture, where listening to and sharing information with colleagues is an essential part of the role.

As an Intern on our team, your role will include:
* Analyzing an evolving portfolio of complex tax operations to provide meaningful business insights
* Identifying potential opportunities and risks and communicating these to our clients
* Learning and researching current market trends, to maintain your credibility as a trusted advisor
* Developing clear, intelligent plans and approaches to improve our clients' tax activities
* Researching our clients' business operations and building long-lasting relationships to tailor your advice to their specific needs
* Participating on a motivated team of professionals

Skills and attributes for success
To qualify for the role, you must have:
* A predicted undergraduate or graduate degree with a concentration in Finance, Economics, International Business, or a related field; or an advanced degree in Tax or Law; supported by a strong academic record.
* 3.0 cumulative college/university GPA.
* Excellent communication skills, proficiency in basic MS Office tools, and strong writing skills, with business fluency in the English language.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
* The ability to prioritize when working on multiple complex projects.
* An interest working in our team-led and leader-enabled hybrid model. Our expectation is for most people in external, client serving roles to work together in person 60% of the time over the course of an engagement, project or year.
* Access to reliable transportation to/from the EY office and client sites. A driver's license is strongly recommended as ride share and public transportation options may not be available in all locations.
* The ability and willingness to travel and work in excess of standard hours when necessary. In certain circumstances, travel may be required beyond your work location based on client and project needs.
* You must reside within a commutable distance of the office location associated with this position.
* Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without the need for employer sponsorship, now and in the future.

Ideally, you will have:
* Cumulative college/university GPA of 3.5 or above.
* Proficiency in a technology-enabled environment.
* Progress toward a master's degree or Juris Doctor.
* Knowledge of how to leverage firm-approved AI tools in a business setting, including Microsoft Copilot.

Please note this position is not able to consider candidates with an Accounting major. CPA-track candidates with an interest in Tax should explore opportunities in the 360 Careers Tax; you can learn more about the 360 Careers Experience here.
