The Erasmus Students Association in Athens arranges accomodation for incoming students. The appartment has to be paid (total rent + deposit) in advance. Until now you don't know your accomodation. The appartments are very different. If you don't like your appartment you have the possiblility to change. The most disappointing thing in my appartment was that there was now washing machine!

That the university is not really good. Some teachers are not able to speak English. Lots of strikes. Teachers are sometimes not very motivated.

You should use the weekends to travel around the mainland or to some islands. Ferries for Greek students (incl. Erasmus) are very cheap (only slow ferries).
Take care by renting cars. It is better to pay little more and have an overall insurance. GREEK TRAFFIC IS CRAZY!!

Teachers are sometimes absolutely not able to speak English.
French and Spanish students are sometimes really hard to understand because of there pronunciation.
In everyday life the differences are very high. Some Greek people got strange or even angry when you don't speak Greek. A big surprise was that lots of very young people were already able to speak English.

because of big price differences and of the fact of being not at the familar surounding (espacially telephone)
Prices for transport are in general already low compared with the tarifs at home and moreover you get a students discount of 50 % for travelling.
Taxi prices are also very low.

it was by far more expensive than I expected!!! If you book alreade the flight there AND back you can save some money!
