Housing
Type of housing: MUCH cheaper than using university accomodation
Arranged by: Independently - My choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
It´s the cheapest way to look for an appartment - living in the University´s International House is overprized and below standard. Also, it is located quite far from the Chula campus, and there´s no real direct bus connection in between. Better you arrive a few days in advance and walk around to look for a private appartment - there are lots of choices. Be careful with signing the contract, however!

I have visited friends living there: double room, bathroom OUTSIDE: 5000 Baht/month; with bathroom inside: 7500; larger version: 10.000 Baht. Now I got a much better room with bathroom and balcony for about 5500 - 6000 Baht a month - including phone and electricity and TV ... AND: much closer to university!!!

Academic
Course recommendations
Interaction with the Thai students is hard if you don´t speak Thai; do not see the Chula kids as normal Thais - their behaviour is quite unusual in this country; Courses by foreign teachers tend to be better-prepared and grading does not take 2 months as with my Thai teacher...

Thai students at Chula are mostly not too serious about project work; be careful with your inputs, do not cause them to "lose face"!!!

I can only recommend you to learn a little Thai in advance; it will make social life much easier and is also useful at university when u have to work with local students; and, believe it or not: it is NOT impossible for a falang to learn it! Once u got an idea, i´t´s atually quite simple (no grammar... :-))

I wish I had known...
not really... I have been there 3 times before and have been the language for 2 years before; but even though I had also gone through some intercultural training at my home university, I faced the typical "culture shock" after 2 months - don´t worry, this goes away soon---

Personal recommendation
I recommend it ONLY if you have experience in travelling through Asia, preferably Thailand, as well as iteraction with Asian people... it´s not always scuh a smiling place and 2 of my colleagues from another university didn´t enjoy it at all since they were totally ill-prepared: they hated the food, the climate and the noise of the city... and soon, the also hated the corny local students who seemed only to be interested in fun and easy life, but didnt interact with them at all...

Final comments
Be open-hearted but better watch and observe your fellow students first; do not break cultural taboos and prepare yourself in this respect; then you will get a lot more out of your time in the city of angels than you might expect

Personal spending habits
Life is VERY cheap; food, entertainment, travel, shopping - everything! Go to Bangkok with an empty bag and return homw tih 2 large ones! If you need European food and enjoy expensive restaurants and night clubs too often, however, you expenses can easily surpass European levels!!!

turned out to be MUCH cheaper than planned (and I study finance, huh-huh!) - had more than enough with about 500-600 Euros a month... even including a diving course and various journeys, loads of shopping and more!
