Yeah there are several dance clubs around the area (within 1.5 hrs) but mostly there are one or two in each town, with a popular hang out spot for the locals as well, very relaxing , plenty of movement and lot's of intersting people to meet!!!!

Housing
Type of housing: With a family
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
Because It's cheap and although the families were extremely hospitable It's soo cheap to rent an apartament, so why not have your own place?

It was easily the best experience of my life. The university arranged that I tutor some of the teachers there in english so they were able to be updated on words and practice their knowledge with an actual american , they paid me for this, thoug it wasn't much it kept me out on the weekends at the bars and clubs. Also I met several people at the Univ. studying media, and thru them I was able to arrange several interveiws that were later broadcasted on subjects such as "foreign influence", " outsiders thoughts on Brazil", and " exchange students in Brazil" . Also I was able to do several translations over the radio for some of the popular american songs down there, Bush,Metalica, that sort. If you like alot of attention and make freinds easily , You'll get it in Brazil!!!!!

I think I spent less because half-way through Brazil went through an economic crisis that split it's value(with the u.s. dollar) almost in half, so everything became almost 50% cheaper!!!

Nah, it all generally worked out fine, oh yeah Visa is better than Mastercard, someone told me the opposite, but wasn't true I used my visa-backed debit card more easily than any Mastercard.

I was able to acually pass as a Brazilian when I went to Rio and the other cities, I picked up everything except political lingo and the real technical stuff, which I didn't consider necessary. But I did it good enough to write a portuguese essay and get an equivalent of an A-, That was very satisfactory!!!

I wish I had known...
Maybe a little of the language, I bought a pocket Dictionary 1 week before I went to Brazil, that's how much I studied.
