Course recommendations
At the graduate program, make sure you are aware of what you need to take prior chosing your courses. Also make sure you know if there are classes offered for your program in the summer. So, in case there are not offerings and you would like to use your time, you can still consider taking electives. Not all the programs allow many electives. I am taking a program that allows only 2 in total. Again, this is about graduate. I have no idea about undergraduate.

Personal comments
No., This university is cool. They even have the student center, which is a nice idea. Also you can access all type of resources, including free internet. The library is accesible via internet as well once you are a student. The teachers are very good. Also, this university is proudly multicultural, which is a benefit if you are a foreigner. There are tons of activities. Unfortunately I work so I cannot attend, but there are many activities and interesting academic visitors, professors and researchers that come to lecture, etc.

The first thing you need to do when you get here is to get your social security number. I did not know that, and then, it takes a month in some cases. You cannot do ANYTHING without a SS#. You can only rent a car. You need to get one. Second step, you need a driver's license from here. Go and take the test. The car here is important. In terms of the school, remember their website through Campus Conection, givesyou almost everything you need. So you do not have to go to offices all the time. Make sure you check it out.

Personal spending habits
I had no need to rent when I was at home. Here I had to pay for housing. I ended up buying a place, so it is better invested my money. If you are a regular student of undergraduate you may want to share with other students at a dorm or big appartment. It is expensive housing here. However, standard of life is pretty good if you pay a little bit more. It is actually a very high standard compared to other cities in the US.

Save from the small stuff. Look for sales, bargains and promotions. You would not believe the difference in price. And how muh you can save. You need to walk around and know the place before spending in the store next door. One tip, the food stores around the university are outreageously more expensive than other food stores.

Check the Metromix.com. It tells you everything that it is going on. The scene is too fast here in Chicago. Bars around the university in Lincoln Park are many and all styles, for all type of people. There is a coffee place called The Burgeois Pig that is nice, around the school on Fullerton at Halsted. You can go to different types of clubs and bars. Also restaurants, any ethnic food and any type of food, Chicago is the place to go for food. I like a club called Rive Gauche. Crobar is old but as faras I know is still cool. (I guess it still exists). Things change quickly here, since there are too many options. So I suggest you check www.metromix.com That is your best source of information on things going on. Also, once you are here, once here you learn about all the parties, that are TOO many. Good luck.

It is a brilliant University and all my lecturers and staff were very helpful. I had no trouble seeing the my lecturers to get help and they all understood the difficulties I might be facing.

I think one of the most important things about studying abroad is that it gives ou the knowledge and the confidence to pursue your goals anywhere they may take you.

I was there in January which is probably not the best time to go because of the cold...in the summer it gets pretty nice, therefor my personel recommendation is the beach.
