Housing
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: A room exchange
Why?
The Melbourne Campus of Deakin University is about 45 min. from the city centre (by tram). I would have preferred a location a little closer to the city.

Compared to what is customary at my home university, students in Australia living in so-called "student villages" on campus are usually first-year students and thereby a few years younger - at an age where even 2-3 years are sometimes crucial to one's behaviour. However, the atmosphere in general was very good, though interests among the students living in the same house were very different.

If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
Being in an apartment/house makes you feel more intergrated in the town. You actually feel like you live there and not just on exchange.

The house was for exchange students and it was great fun to live with people from different places. The house was great compared to the accomodation you get in London. We were well looked after.

I stayed in the uni residences during my first year. I was one of the first batch. It was a blast with all the exchange students I got to meet. ;) It's very expensive though, now it costs like more than $3k AUD per semester. o.0 One semester is good enuf...just to get the experience. ;)

Living on campus at the Melbourne campus is very expensive. Finding somewhere else to live, preferably with aussies, is much better.
