Living with a host family is an excellent way to practice the language, get to know the area and keep from congregating with other Americans too frequently (which happens way too much). But if I were to go back with this knowledge, I would just get Spanish roomies because I like the independence.

I lived with a family and it was a nice arrangement; the host families the university chooses tend to be warm and receptive.
