Since all the Icelanders speak English, in the end, I was too lazy to make the effort to speak Icelandic - should have worked on that...

I didn´t have any big surprises, since I was quite well informed about the price level. The only problem was that for 2 months, the Euro was very low compared to the Icelandic krona - but that, I couldn´t predict. People should be aware that they´ll have to pay a caution on arrival, which with all the other expenses will make it a hard month.

If you´re going for the wintersemester, try on one hand to go earlier and make a tour through Iceland in Summer and on the other hand get to go to the Erasmus Intensive Language Course - it is free for Erasmus students, you get a scholarship for it, you learn the basics of Icelandic, you meet a lot of people who are staying there too and there will be more organised trips. I was glad I did it that way, because there are few opportunities to travel during the semester.

Well, going out in Reykjavík is easy, since everything happens on the main street Laugavegur; there, all the bars are next to one another, which makes it easy to switch. My favs were 22, 11, Kaffibarinn and Sirkus.
