In the first month i was shocked with how much money i used but later I had to cut down my expenses in food by not to buying fast foods so often or eating outside,reduce clothes shopping as I used to in Tanzania.Always you need to know how much money you use in a month so as you don't get financial suprises time after time.I learnt how to budget my money and save when I came in here.Its a big improvements

I think the major reason is the exchange rate , if I spend 5 euro here and I try to convert it to Naira (currency in Nigeria) it will be very big.

Due mainly to the fact that the Canadian dollar is worth only approx. 60% of the Euro. Therefore expenses are much higher when converting from the Euro to the CDN$.

Financial surprises: if you want to deposit money into your account, you have to go into the actual branch to do it, you are unable to do it through a banking machine (as is possible in Canada or the USA).
If you're looking to save money on transactions, etc. then you should get yourself a bank account here. This is much more conveniant since you can use your chipnit card for nearly anything.
