No help to find apartment or room for foreign students was offered at that time (1992) at ICADE. You were left to yourself, and to find a decent place to live was actually the most challenging part of the whole course in Madrid!

Madrid has it all. You name it - they've got it! Stay away from the butching at the Bullfight Rink though. Unless you´ve got a morbid sence of fun and a strong stomach...

How to find an apartment or room in Madrid without struggling for so long! And how patient you've got to be when enrolling as foreigner at the local police and government offices. (Things like that took five times longer in Madrid than in Barcelona!)

A very Catholic traditional university, beautiful although old facilities and buildings, an interesting athmosphere.

At that time (1992) my all-Norwegian class was placed at facilities far away from the real university of ICADE. Which ment we had no interaction with the local students or the teachers, apart from our own teachers/professors. This has hopefully changed now...

Since our classes were held outside the ICADE buildings, we had to find language social interaction elsewhere - in the daily life and in the nightlife. For this Madrid is perfect! Very open-minded and social people, that love to talk to you, as long as you take the initiative to talk in Spanish with them first.

Accommodation very expencive in Madrid! You pay incredibly much for a "small hole", if you want a decentlæy central location. Food is cheap - if you buy fresh food to prepare yourself, it is very cheap, and a great selection!

If you're willing to live in the outskirts if town, you can get quite a big apartment with many bedrooms (to share with fellow students), but in the city be prepared to get up early, find the morning paper and start calling around, if you want to find a good affordable place to stay. Average time for my student colleagues to find a place to stay at all was more than a week - when the whole day was spent on house-searching!
