If you're from the U.S., GET AWAY! For at least a semester if not more! Please...I don't care where you go, as long as you take some time to travel outside the country and learn more about other people, cultures, languages, etc.

Dress warm. Be open to new things. Bring comfortable shoes and something to travel with. Buy a Eurail pass before you go and bring an erasable pen.

I lived there almost two years, what I can say, the accomodation was without any problems. If there was anything broken in our apartnemt, serviceman repaired it almost always next day (if it was not urgent)

I was surprised how well most of the Finns speak English (altough sometimes they deny it). I went to Finland to learn more Finnish and it was not easy because I often ended up talking in English.I had some difficulties understanding local people who speak dialects.
