I wish I had known...
The culture, the way of life, the industry, so that I had not spent time to adjust to local situations. For instance, I did not even know the meaning of a "Dutch Treat" when I went there!

Kepp up your vision and mission for the students. I really love to go back, perhaps, as a guest lecturer, or an alumnus who had terrific experience at Leuven!

Adjust quickly to the quality of life. Again, let me sy, THINK BELGIAN! Have more local friends as you can. They can help you during your stay at KUL. Do not hesitate to expose your innocence with the culture. They love it if you know their culture.

I wish I had known...
Is always good to stick around with other people on the weekends, otherwise you'll have this "homesick" feeling...actually, you will get it anyways: just start working on that idea before you travel, it makes it easier to know you're expecting this than rather just have that feeling out of the blue.

Leuven rocks in everysense. Comparing it to my previous international experience (at the Vlerick Leuven Gent Management School in Gent, Belgium) I can say that the student atmosphere is by far thousand times better. But, eventhough the city can offer everything, is still quite small. In that sense I think Gent is a better place to live, but Leuven a better place to interact with other international students and with the university itself.

I've worked and studied at the same time and been able to handle it perfectly. You should do it to...is a great way to make money to pay for expenses/travels/night outs, etc. For foreign students: you can apply for a work permit C at the city hall which allows you to work as a student 20 hours a week.

A 6 year adventure at KULeuven
Nick D
Belgium, Graduate
Engineering, Mechanical, 2019
Overall
From start to end the university offers a great variety of basically, any course. The engineering department challenges every student and professors push them to the next level. Not only traditional lectures but one on one conversation take place. This enhances motivation, insight and communication skills. Overall experience was though but definitely worth it.

Overall
Probably because the school wants to educate us to be cross-profession talents, the course set in our Business economics programme includes so many business dimensions. Although the educational quality in Leuven is outstanding, the less focused knowledge and unsupportive help in career make the university not really suitable for students who are pure jobseekers.

qualitative educational programmes

Overall
Qualitative programmes.
Classes can be somewhat impersonal, especially in bachelor programmes, where soms lectures have up to 700 students.
Interesting courses and professors.
Very research-oriented focus, sometimes less attention for practical aspects.
