The general cost level in and around New York is higher than what is the case in Sweden. Moreover, when you are abroad it is automatically that you will spend more than usually at home.

In Upper Montclair you can find a cafe named Eléctic Café. It is a very nice place and you just have to taste the chocolate cheesecake! Moreover, New York City is just 40 minutes away by bus. But the buses don't go very often during night time and weekends, which made it hard to come back sometime... Around the state of New Jersey you can find a lot of outdoors activities like hiking, biking and camping. The ISO, International Student Organisation is doing a very good job and offers students to attend in small trips during holidays. The inconvinience of getting to and from New York City and the scare night life close to MSU is the two biggest disadvantges. But my overall experience drives me back to the U.S, I hope I soon will be back in NY for a great job.

A nice small American university, close to New York City, but on a large campus so students can enjoy at the same time the benefits of NYC and the benefits of a smaller city.

Food is extremely expensive, especially if you want something half decent! The housing was rather expensive, and US$15-30 for cover charges into clubs was a little excessive!

There is an agreement with a bank in town that allows Montclair students to set up a bank account free of charge for any withdrawal services etc.
