Vida estudiantil
Cómo es la ciudad de destino:
Los estudiantes se relacionan con la comunidad local sin implicación en la universidad

Experiencia de vida social
Comentario personal
I joined a hiking club that was organized by students. We traveled a lot and at the end of each trip there was always a "fiesta". Through the club I made a lot of friends, both national and international ones.
Outside campus (directly behind the uni) there are plenty of night spots. You will never miss a good party if you know at least a few people beyond your own classes.

Alojamiento
Tipo de alojamiento: En el campus
Organizado por: Universidad de intercambio
Si volviera, eligiría: En una familia
¿Por qué?
As I have already lived in a dorm on campus with other students together in one apartment, it would be nice to experience family life as well.

Comentario personal
Most of the dorms are on campus; security staff takes care of unauthorized visitors. The dorms are divided into apartment in which guest students live togehter with home students. I liked that very much, therefore I had a lot of contact to Mexicans and their culture. Of course, it was very good to improve my Spanish skills. In addition there are several occasions organized such as Welcome Party, Soccer championship, Dinner Parties, etc. All in all it is very easy to built up personal contact to other students as well to staff members.

Comentarios finales
Travel as much as you can. There are far to many things to see but the travel guide from Lonely Planet is very helpful for individual trips.
In addition there is a travy agency on campus and during the semester several trips can be book through the uni. So you don´t have to take care of hotel reservations, tour guide, etc..

Idiomas
Comentario personal
Altough I had very good grades at school in Spanish, it was quite hard to fallow everyhing at the beginning of my study time in Mexico. But most of the people are quite patient and try to explain expression that I didn´t unterstand in other words. That happend as well in social but also in university life. Therefore I learned a lot of new vocabulary and my listening skills developed strongly. If I am talking now to a native speaker I often her compliments about my spoken Spanish and that I adopted the Mexican way of speaking:-)

Gastos

Costumbres personales de gasto
due to lower income, almost everything is cheaper compared to European prices. Buying local food products is definetely cheaper than buying the brand (if available at all) that you are used from home.
Housing depends on your choice of living, sharing an apartment can be cheapier, but a dorm or the family option is much easier and more safe (burglary!)
Travelling by bus is quite cheap. There are hardy any train stations, but first class buses (very high standard) will bring you to almost every destination in Mexico. When you are lucky you can even get a cheap flight within the country.
