It is a good way to live on with other international students on your own, in another country. It makes for a more immersive experience, just blending right int to the culture

There were not many choices for me going to study at Bocconi, in finding accomodations. I showed up at the university for language class, staying in a hotel for two weeks while I was figuring out where to live. A little aggravating, but a great learning experience.

Going around Milano was great. You are an international student, but there are the places to go - Propaganda, Old Fashion Cafe, Corso di Porto Ticinese, Palo Alto on Corso Romana, the list goes on and on. It really does not matter the spot - the Italians are out all the time, in the streets, smiling and happy and just enjoying the company. You can also try the Navigli for a high concentration of places to go out at night.

Bocconi was a great international program. Very, very international, with students from all over Latin America, United States, and Europe. Probably one of the most international exchange programs of any of the international exchange programs offered in the US, due to the fact that it was not just Americans together overseas. It was almost like picking up and going to enroll directly in an Italian university.

The Italian system was very different than the American system - one exam at the end of class, oral, in front of the entire class watching. What a performance, but then very Italian when you consider. Was a great learning experience, in more ways than one.

I was traveling much more and going out much more in Milan than in LA, so my expenses went up a bit more. But the life of an international student found many situations of frugality in travel and nightlife.

Bancomat saves the day in so many places - you have no problems getting money. Setting up a bank account - that is not fun and a bit difficult. The bureaucracy in Italy can be a bit debilitating at times, but that is the way it goes. With the other parts of the lifestyle, it balances out.

I studied Italian for two years at UCLA before going to Italy in the first place. I was very happy to be able to go to Italy itself and really learn the language, like it is supposed to be learned. A very worthwhile experience.
