For spanish people is easy enough to learn italian. In Italy almost nobody speaks english so if you go to Italy don't think about not learning italian.

If you can bring your car with you I recommend you doing it. I did it and it was great to travel and to move yourself in town. I had the chance to travel and know Erasmus life in other more famous and bigger cities (Rome, Florence, Naples, Venice, Bari...) and I would not chance at all for L'Aquila. In other big places it is really expensive and it is not so familiar with foreign students from other countries and local people. In big cities I have seen that people generally only interact with people from their own nationality.

There is not somebody to look for a house for you before your arrival but they can help you if you do not speak italian or you need a phone to call
