Accounting and Finance Student
Oliver H
United Kingdom, Undergraduate
Accountancy, 2022
Overall
The course for first year develops your proficiency to get everyone up to a set level. This includes mathematics (even if you haven't studied A level) as well as accounting basics. Accountancy is taught in a clear fashion and the teachers are good at what they do. There is also other modules like economics and general presentation/interpersonal skills. This is good for developing yourself. You then have to choose between Accounting or Finance for second year. However, either way you still have some modules that cover both Accounting and Finance so either way you go you could still go into the other field. Finance has not been too hard so far. I am interested in Corporate Finance and therefore find it interesting

Dario G
Italy, Undergraduate
Economics, 2018
Overall
My time at UoB was brilliant, giving me ample experience and development for my future. I studied the Liberal Arts programme which can be a source of Incredible multi-disciplinary learning if you use it properly, i.e. go in already having a vague idea of how you want to finish. Amazing ties to other universities for opportunities to study abroad for a year. Vibrant city with 4 other universities, very much geared up to the student life.

I wish I had known...
Yes! The HUGE problem with the fact of going abroad the last year of your studies is that, contrary to your friends who stayed at the home University, you can't choose options and don't specialized yourself. As a matter of fact, when you come back to your country, you feel that you haven't learnt anything by doing basic subjects in another language. It's make the things more complicated when you have to apply to more specialized studies (DESS).

Personal recommendation
To enhance the communication within english and international students, even if it means in some cases to educate some english students who seem narrow-minded.

Final comments
Take yellow pages in order to find societies or sporting clubs outside of the campus. Sometimes it's even cheaper in the city. You have to enroll to societies in order to meet students from every countries, and especially native speakers.

First Year during COVID 19
Jessica S
United Kingdom, Undergraduate
Language, 2024
Overall
Whilst it has been a hard year for everyone the academics has not been great. Sports have been limited and facilities have been closed but a big effort has still been made to help students pastorally and with regards to extra-curricular involvement.
