Everything is cheaper in South Africa. Going out to the best dinners in the city was always less than $20 (including wine, all courses, etc). Travel was incredibly cheap (I went on a 3 week safari for $700). A beer is less than $1 at the best bars.

I think the system was good because then you were always aware of your weakest points. Being given the chance to write an exam also gives one the opportunity to prove oneself especially if you have been working in groups throughout.

Best bars are Baseline, 169 and La Med...Also, travel in South Africa and surrounding countries is really cheap so you can travel all over during breaks and after classes finish. I went to Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Namibia, Malawi and Zambia.

The best places in my opinion in Cape Town are the city center a well as Observatory. They are really fun and people there exchanged really easily. South Africans are really creative and do not hesitate to stand out, which is amazing.
